Mantua daddy/daughter getaway - lavaman - 07-19-2012 It was only for a couple of hours, but we had fun. The only bad thing was the water clarity: Pea Soup. Algae bloom in full swing at that little pond. She caught a nice little bass, and I banked a 10" perch. Wish they were all that big. (or bigger). IMO it's all about the kiddo's and seeing their .(It's too hot out there for my liking...I'm ready for the ice.) Now I just need to get out soon. [signature] Re: [lavaman] Mantua daddy/daughter getaway - pa - 07-19-2012 Outstanding. Good job of "passing it on". [signature] Re: [Bama_Boy] Mantua daddy/daughter getaway - lavaman - 07-19-2012 We'll be hunting Tigers soon I'm sure. [signature] Re: [lavaman] Mantua daddy/daughter getaway - fish_fear_me2 - 07-19-2012 Great day when you can share with the kiddos, Great pic, love her sunglasses. Thanks for sharing!!! [signature] Re: [fish_fear_me2] Mantua daddy/daughter getaway - lavaman - 07-19-2012 n/p. Funny thing about the sunglasses, on the way to Mantua she stated how she really needed some badly. So that of course puts me in a situation where we had to stop at that gas station at the mouth of Sardine Canyon (had to get crawlers anyway). After trying on several pairs and decided she liked the white ones. They grow up too fast. Nice j on the bass, you'd better watch out if your daughter is like mine she'll be catching all the fish while you take all the pics. On Monday I made plans to head up there today and this report truely helps. Pea Soup already, that can sometimes put a damper on the action....but I guess Hyrum can always make a good back up. Regardless you never know till you go. Good work out there lavaman.....your daughter looks to have the fishing bug.....as a teen she will likely spend every penny she earns on fishing gear insted of closet after closet of clothing. Good job Dad! [signature] Re: [EvilTyeDyeTwin] Mantua daddy/daughter getaway - lavaman - 07-19-2012 Thanks buddy. Trying to enjoy this age 'before' she gets to the teenage years. Part of the reason why I purchased a shotgun! haha [signature] Re: [lavaman] Mantua daddy/daughter getaway - Johnny69 - 07-19-2012 I went on Tuesday evening for about an hour or so as the sun set. The water was really murky...peas soup. I found the fishing slow. Only 2 BG. I expected to catch a dozen or so. The water was pretty calm and the conditions felt right. It must be the water clarity. Maybe I need to change up the lure. Would white or yellow be better in the n murky water? It's great to see a perch that size. [signature] Re: [Johnny69] Mantua daddy/daughter getaway - lavaman - 07-20-2012 Who knows how long this Algae Bloom will last. I'm guessing it will clear up some within the next month or so. There are a few toad Perch in that pond, I remember last year my buddy Bama boated a nice one that was around 11" and chunky. But it's the same old story with Mantua: lots of stunted perch and gills, with the occasional nice trout or bass being caught. Fun for the kiddos. Part of the reason why I purchased a shotgun! haha[/quote] So you saying you're going to take up duck hunting and teach her the ways of the feathered friends? [crazy] +1 on the reporting. Soup's probably on till well into fall. +1 on getting the kid on some fish. -1 on the stunted fish. Just gotta learn how to find the bigguns - they're out there. May not be a big puddle, but it's a fertile one (fertilized.... right now!) Re: [CoyoteSpinner] Mantua daddy/daughter getaway - lavaman - 07-22-2012 Never said anything about duck hunting. And if you don't realize there are stunted fish in that pond, I'm sorry. Guess I don't know how to find the big ones, maybe I'll let you do that. [signature] Re: [Johnny69] Mantua daddy/daughter getaway - EvilTyeDyeTwin - 07-22-2012 [quote Johnny69]Maybe I need to change up the lure. Would white or yellow be better in the n murky water? It's great to see a perch that size.[/quote] I got 77 fish when I went on Thursday....maybe you should try flies[ ]...purple, green and white are good colors when the water goes pea soup on ya.For me this fly just slayed them...I got 15 in a row on this one, and 76 of my fish on it. The other 2 bait chuckers on the boat could not even keep up! I think the most important thing I have learned about fishing Mantua over the years is FINDING THE FISH! Sometimes it is very easy and other times it is very difficult. My last trip was hard, but I have fished there enough to have over 10 spots on that lake. Only a few times have I given up and gone to Hyrum. [signature] Re: [lavaman] Mantua daddy/daughter getaway - CoyoteSpinner - 07-22-2012 Guess ya missed that one. What else would you need a shotgun for? Pheasant? (I do get it - got a daughter pushing to become a teen too! I it weren't for all the Nick and Disney - they might not get all them ideas!) Best thing you can do to help those stunted fish is to thin out the pool some - you did say 'tasty' bass didn't you? The stunted ones could just be the youngin's my friend - all striving to becomes teens themselves! I found some pretty good class Gills this spring - and that was after all the ice-pressure have lifted. A stack of fat 8-inchers can make up a pretty good fry for the family. Maybe if they planted some Musky! (tee hee - I know BTDT story) Passed by a few of the Idaho lakes on the way home yesterday - and before month's end - I may change my tune once I've got a different reference for comparison. Evil - I can always see green being a good color for that weed forest! I'd think this time of year some poppers and hoppers would be pretty well matched along shores? Just skip any hope of trolling! haha Re: [CoyoteSpinner] Mantua daddy/daughter getaway - 12inchlunker - 07-23-2012 Yote have you tried Hoppers and Poppers yourself? Throw them one of your shark lures. [signature] Re: [lavaman] Mantua daddy/daughter getaway - andiibart - 07-24-2012 Nice post! Can't wait for my little one to be big enough to take fishing. [signature] Re: [andiibart] Mantua daddy/daughter getaway - lavaman - 07-24-2012 Andy, that day will be here before you know it! [signature] Re: [lavaman] Mantua daddy/daughter getaway - fsh4fun05 - 07-24-2012 "Andy, that day will be here before you know it!" That's no joke! My 11 year old daughter is now using my baitcasters instead of spinning reels because "the stupid thing flips over when I cast" she said. I remember when she caught her first bass at Jordanelle, now she's using the same gear I am and she's dangerously close to out fishing me on a regular basis. They grow up fast. Good times buddy, I like the report. [signature] |
