a little crappie with my beer batter. - chrome_junky - 07-08-2012 Got my pontoon out to a local pond this morning. felt good to get the old boat out again. Fished heavy heavy cover for crappie and gills. I ended up with 15 keeper crappie and 3 bluegill from 5am to 10am. the crappie were very healthy and big. I found all of them up in the shade deep in the trees. All were caught on Yamamoto panfish grubs in pearl or avocado with red flake rigged on a 1/16 jig head. I didn't get any pictures on the water but I do have one of the finished product. bask in the beer battered crappie glory!!!! Got a chunk of salmon fillet on the smoker now and trying out this new recipe: Smoked Salmon Romaine lettuce (Chopped) Sliced tomato Sliced mushrooms Avocado (slices or chopped pieces) Chopped green onions Feta cheese (1/4 cup crumbled to minimize carbs) Italian seasoning Fresh ground pepper A really good Caesar dressing (Walden Farms low carb caesar dressing to minimize carbs) Total of only 4 carbs per serving! Procedure: 1. Cover plate with Romaine lettuce. 2. Chop and slice ingredients. 3. Layer ingredients: tomato slices first, mushroom slices, avocado, Alaska Smokehouse Smoked Salmon, feta cheese crumbled over the top, and scallions. 4. Top with Caesar Salad dressing. i'm drooling already. I'll post a pic when it's done. I ended up with 15 keepers two of which made the 13 inch mark. the rest I kept were between 10 and 12 inches. I probably landed close to 30 little guys also. Check out the pictures of my 13 inchers! I know some folks like their big trophies, but lots of active aggressive bites on light tackle - those tall bodied suckers can really give ya a run! Not to mention some nice-white-flaky-fillets! So where's the beer-batter recipe? I've got some I've tried - have to dig a bit... Re: [chrome_junky] a little crappie with my beer batter. - idahopanfish - 07-10-2012 wow two good days nice catches [signature] Re: [CoyoteSpinner] a little crappie with my beer batter. - ineedtofish - 07-10-2012 The beer batter recipe I use is really easy. 1 oz. of beer to 1 oz. of flour. So, take 12 oz. of flour and slowly whisk in any 12 oz. beer you like. Then cover the bowl with a towel and let it sit on the counter for an hour. Turns out great. By the way, I like to use Fat Tire, or a similar ale for mine. [signature] Re: [chrome_junky] a little crappie with my beer batter. - hooknhunter - 07-11-2012 I tried CJ's batter recipe last night. It is completely AWESOME! Thanks, Buddy! We tried it on perch- awesome, tried it on zucchini sticks- awesome, tried it on fried pickles- super awesome. I'm gonna get fat (ter) now. Thanks. [frown] Errr, I mean, Thanks. [cool] I don't know beer at all since I don't drink alcohol. I had no idea which beer to use, but I remembered someone saying they liked Fat Tire in theirs, so that what I used. I was surprised since you said not to use it all or it would be too thin. I had to use it all or it was too thick. Maybe my ingredients are a little different than yours. Either way, I'm hooked.
