Teton River - pisces_mortem - 07-02-2012 Floated Bitch Creek to Spring Creek on Saturday. Water is a bit high for this time of year and a tad off color. That may explain the relatively slow fishing, but it's more likely the bad mojo from starting the trip with a nasty tumble down the slide. A buddy took the worst spill I've personally witnessed. He laid under a sage brush for a few minutes and then shook it off and outfished me. Panther Martins in the secret color/dot/blade combination were effective. Chernobyl ants also. Going again this weekend. Hopefully it will clear up a bit. [signature] Re: [pisces_mortem] Teton River - cpierce - 07-02-2012 I don't know the river well, and I was wondering where Spring Creek is. The only Spring Cr I remember is up in the upper valley. Were you floating the canyon? What were you floating in? Isn't it pretty rough in there when the water is up? Sounds like a great trip even if the fishing was a bit slow. Thanks for sharing it. I start getting the "I wishes" when I read adventures like yours. I have not fished the teton much but I headed out today to see what I could learn. The salmonflies were out and about on the banks. We caught a few fish....I didn't have too much luck with my fly rod but my father-in-law did catch a few on panther martins. I must concur that was the worst fall I have ever witnessed and was amazed to see no major blood or protruding bones. It was a great day on the river though. Thanks again, Good luck this weekend. Be careful, and good fishing. [signature] Re: [FishingPal] Teton River - jabink89 - 07-03-2012 are you positive they were salmon flies? could they have been the good sized goldens that are abundant on the teton? [signature] Re: [pisces_mortem] Teton River - ChrisTheFish - 07-03-2012 I'm surprised how many people seem to be fishing that stretch these days. That drop can be killer, in a very literal sense! Beautiful and solitary float if one makes the effort though. I look forward to another report. [signature] Re: [ChrisTheFish] Teton River - Bardic - 07-03-2012 I've looked down the hill where bitch enters the teton... I don't think I'll ever walk down that. Up may be more work, but i'd sure feel safer. I enjoy going down by the power station, but that's still a long walk up afterwards. [signature] Re: [cpierce] Teton River - pisces_mortem - 07-03-2012 Spring Creek or Spring Hollow is where the upper boat ramp was when the reservoir was there. I've often wondered if anyone ever launched a boat from it before the dam failed. We floated in a 14' raft, which takes a beating on the slide, but you go with what you got. Between the slide, the rapids, and the rattlesnakes, it's not for the faint of heart. [signature] Re: [pisces_mortem] Teton River - cpierce - 07-03-2012 Thanks! I never knew the local name of that access. That whole canyon is beautiful, but a really dangerous area. Glad your trip was fun and semi-safe.. [signature] Re: [pisces_mortem] Teton River - StickRig - 07-04-2012 You know, I've fished the Teton quite a bit, even in mid-summer, and never ran in to a rattlesnake. Found me some nice fish though, I love the Teton. [signature] Re: [jabink89] Teton River - FishingPal - 07-04-2012 I know they were not golden stoneflies.....they were large all black stoneflies.....World Cast Anglers (WCA) reported on June 26th: "Salmonflies buzzing around the lower river! I would stop reading this report right now, drop what you are doing and fish. (6.26.12)" FYI: WCA updated there report today July 4th....but if you google what I have in quotation marks it shows up as an old page...Or just call WCA for more details.... [signature] Re: [FishingPal] Teton River - pisces_mortem - 07-09-2012 Floated it again 7-7. No injuries this time; the water was lower, and the fishing better. Not insane, but we stayed busy. At this point in the trip, I always wonder why we do these things: ![]() At this point, I'm usually sore at myself: ![]() Then this happens: ![]() And I look up and see this: ![]() "Eh, what trouble?" - Jeremiah Johnson [signature] Re: [pisces_mortem] Teton River - FishingPal - 07-10-2012 Great report! That looks like an insane trail....although I have always wanted to try to fish that part of the teton. [cool] [signature] |
