Brownlee and Owyhee Trip Report - dowhatwecan - 06-20-2012
I just got back from my annual trip to Brownlee....It was tough. The fish were there but scattered, deep and on the bottom in 30-40 feet of water. It was slow.....slow .....slow fishing. The wind made this incredibly tough to keep on the bottom. The week before the water temperatures were documented as 62 by Idaho Power. We were consistently seeing temperatures in the 70's and in a few shallow bays we say 77 degrees. The crappie were re-absorbing their eggs. I assume this was because of the very rapid warming of the water. In four days we ended up with just over 100 crappie, a few catfish and a few bass.
We decided to go to Owyhee for a day and test it out and it was a little better but not much. We worked our way up and fished the most likely spots on our way up lake. We did best in the shallow bay across from the cabins and then around the docks. The crappie were fairly large for Owhyee (9-10) inch fish. I don't know how the rest of the fishing season will be at Brownlee but good luck.

great report..... re-absorbing eggs? they should have eggs right now again, should be forming for next spring, i've caught perch already with there eggs starting too develop in cascade at the end of may....

All the females had mature eggs that were overripe. The egg membrane was rotten and getting worse.
