Stanley Lake report 6/17 - rodngun762 - 06-18-2012 Hey guys, so my dad and I headed out for a little fathers day fishing up here. I have fished Stanley Lake from shore before but never from a boat. Today we had a boat and a fish finder so this was a lot more fun. Kodiak1 from BFT gave me a few tips on targeting the lake trout there and with a stop at McCoy's tackle shop in Stanley we were on our way. After about ten min we started metering what I assume to have been lake trout, appearing as nice sold red dots on the 200khz and as boomerrangs on the 50khz. We metered lots of fish from the inlet down along the southern part of the lake throughout the day. Anywhere from 30 feet deep to just off the bottom at 70+ feet we were getting returns on the meter. We kept to 50-80 feet of depth the whole time. Unfortunately that was as close as we got to any fish today. We had a downrigger and fished a variety of lures, from krocs to countdown rapalas to flatfishes. Something was either wrong with our presentation or the fish didn't want to bite. I attached a picture from today(the pup came with us too [ ![]() hope to get out again in the next week and try it again there. Spending a good part of my summers fishing for them ever since the late 50's I can attest it can be a lonely pursuit. Thanks for the report, and I hope the fish cooperate better for you next time. Posting the map is great. They can be really hard to find. My experience has all been through the ice, but I found that Macs seemed to respond well to jigging. Have a few saltwater jigs that I think would work,, but may have to tip the hooks with some bait, like a piece of sucker or something enticing. Sucker is my prefered tipping bait at this time, so I think you are on to something. PM me if you want some input on lures to try.
