Taking a buddy fishing - KenFishy - 05-18-2012 So, I'm taking my buddy fly fishing for his first time, i got spare waders and a rod that he can use, and i was wondering where a good place to take him to hopefully teach him and hopefully have him catching some fish he told me he was 'interested in the art' [:p] any info on where or even how to teach him is appreciated [signature] Re: [KenFishy] Taking a buddy fishing - tageater - 05-18-2012 I've taken plenty of friends out for their first fly fishing tour- First- gotta think about the casting- back cast specifically...the less trees the better. Catching lots of fish has to take back seat to not spending 80% of the day climbing trees. Use an egg pattern this month- this will UP the odds of catching a fish! Areas where there are little to no tree's AND fish- I hate to say it but Mid provo is the game- up the odds by walking the river away from the local "hot spots" but there are plenty of treeless areas. Hope any of that helps. But the egg- man, I caught 25 fish the other day, 24 of them on the egg... Oh, and take a flask...worst case scenerio- you have some whiskey, and laugh at all the tree climbing! There are a few good little holes on that run that if you throw an egg pattern (i find orange works best) or a rainbow warrior it kills it! although the back casting can be tough, its not a wide river. The upside is he can work on his roll cast! good luck [signature] |
