Veyo Utah - jimmezero - 11-23-2011 Caught this while taking a break from preparing for the winter freeze. The Santa Clara river (really a stream this time of year) flows right through her backyard. I have caught several fish in this stream but not one even close to this ugly beast. caught on a silver\black skirt rooster tail. I usually catch smaller (10") and it is pretty clear, but this one looks prehistoric. I know it would have been a tasty treat, but due to the size and stream conditions I had to put her back where I caught her. Prolly the mama of many fish in the creek. [signature] Re: [jimmezero] Veyo Utah - Erawk - 11-23-2011 That is a different looking trout. Where is Veyo located in Utah? Thanks for sharing. [signature] Re: [TheWhizzle] Veyo Utah - BigE - 11-23-2011 [cool]That is a nice brown trout for that size stream. Its darker hue is probably from hiding in the undercuts along the banks. I have caught some that color in the sierras of calif. [signature] Re: [jimmezero] Veyo Utah - riverdog - 11-23-2011 That's an ugly brown. Pretty sure no brooks in there. Some the browns in there do have that hallow around the spot. [signature] Re: [jimmezero] Veyo Utah - LOAH - 11-23-2011 Yeah, that's a brown. He's in spawn mode and some of them get really dark like that around this time of year. Pretty stream. Great catch for the small stream. Veyo's a neat place. [signature] Re: [Erawk] Veyo Utah - jimmezero - 11-23-2011 Veyo is on Hwy 18 north from St. George bout 30 miles. Fishing from Baker res. to Veyo That honey hole is right in my mother-in-laws backyard. BTW Veyo pies are DA BOMB [signature] Re: [jimmezero] Veyo Utah - kglissmeyer - 11-23-2011 Brings back fond memories. Used to live in Pine Valley where the Santa Clara gets its start and caught a lot of browns all the way down the river. That is a pretty big fish for that small river, but I've seen many like it. Well done. There are some real pigs in Baker. Kelly. [signature] Re: [jimmezero] Veyo Utah - 0.45 - 11-23-2011 [quote jimmezero]Veyo is on Hwy 18 north from St. George bout 30 miles. Good catch on that little stream. I tried but could never figure it out. [signature] Re: [TheWhizzle] Veyo Utah - GEEZER - 11-24-2011 Nice rainbow dude! You can tell it's a 'bow as there are no telltale light spots on its sides and the adipose and pectoral fins are missing the white leading edge. Most trout will darken like that in streams with a dark bottom. [signature] Re: [GEEZER] Veyo Utah - LOAH - 11-24-2011 Sorry GEEZER, that's a brown all the way. Look at those giant black spots along its side. Look at the shape of its head. It's a male brown trout, about as dark as they come. When they're that dark, they don't always show the white leading edge on the pelvic and pectoral fins. Male rainbows can get pretty dark, but nothing like the pictured fish, plus they'll usually have much smaller spotting and white fin tips. [signature] Re: [jimmezero] Veyo Utah - Troylee - 11-25-2011 Awesome catch... I would say that's a brown IMHO. [signature] Re: [LOAH] Veyo Utah - GEEZER - 11-27-2011 GEEZER got egg on his face big time. Went back & looked at the pic. closer. Saw the halos around the spots this time. Brown fer sure.
