Quantum Response 3000 question - enrgizerbunny - 10-15-2011

I have a Quantum Response 3000. It's got some age to it. It features the TiMag bail and continuous anti-reverse.

I love this reel, but it's given me a couple of wild moments before. I had/have an issue where the anti reverse will not be continuous. In fact, it would spin back about a half turn before catching. Annoying when you can't place the bail where you want it when you go to cast. Scary when you're fighting. It happens on and off and I don't recall it happening much this season. I did get a new, shorter, lighter rod, and it was restrung before that going from 12 lb line to 8 lb both mono. It does it intermittently so I have no idea what would cause it. Any ideas?

I'm not an expert but when was the last time you took the reel apart and really cleaned it and then lubed it?

It was cleaned and lubed a while ago. The end of last season when I I had it restrung they cleaned and lubed it. I rinse it off with fresh water roughly after each trip. I've never gone past taking the spool off and it seemed pretty clean. I don't like to go into things with small moving parts and such because I'm not very good with them most the time.

Sounds like you've done everything you can just seemed to me like something might be sticky

Nathan, First place if you have used it in salt water should always rinse the reel off with fresh water. Then I take my reels apart once a month and clean them. Bait casting reels are more sensitivity then spinning reels. Use dry rags and plenty of q-tips cotton swabs and the after all clean put a drop of oil on Q-Tip and do the internal area and no grease. Spinning Reels take apart and lay out all the parts in order you took apart and clean with rag and then Q-Tips and then oil and grease the shaft and all the gears, replace all the parts and then your done.
