Ready to fish - jbp6125 - 07-17-2011 Well a guy I work woth gave me a 8ft Shakespear rod with a Shakespear reel. I know they are cheap but hey it was free. Finally got all my line on it and its ready to go. I just went oustide and cast with it. Its 2:30 am here so it was a little hard to see haha. It worked pretty good though. I had a time with some of my knots. They drove me crazy. I tried a nail knot to tie my backing to my line but that wasn't happening so I went with an Albright knot. It seems to hang just a little but ont bad. I just have to make sure Im all the way past the knot when I start casting. I did succeed with a nail knot for my line to leader connection, Then finished it off with a double surgeon's knot for my leader to tippet. I'm going to fish a pond tomorrow after church and I'm ready to go. Hopefully I'll catch something. Just hopefully not one of the 15 lb cats they have in there. It would be a hell of a fight but I dont wanna lose any of my flies... I dont have many yet haha. Yall have a great day. [signature] Re: [jbp6125] Ready to fish - jbp6125 - 07-18-2011 Well I caught 2 bass and 2 perch and boy were they monsters. One of the bass were nearly as long as my hand haha. They were tiny. I would have loved to catch some bigger fish but the important thing ia that I got a lot of practice casting. Im still not that great but Im able to tell when Im doing it right just by how it feels and how the line looks as it passes by me. I did make about a 30' cast today. I was very proud of myself. I will be doing a little saltwater fishing this weekend so I am very interested to see how that turns out.
