Rod Recommendations - 4poundonly - 07-09-2011 Ok I’ve broken 2 rods at mead within the last 3 months. Now I’m in the market for a new rod. Mainly my fault by crank baits getting caught up then me yanking too hard then Snapo!!! [crazy] I also blame it on the increased flooded vegetation [:p] I tend to fish way lighter then recommended. One rod was a 7’ MD Berkley Cherry wood 2 piece the other was a 7’6” BPS micro lite 2 piece. I know that both cases were my fault. I logged in today to ask BFT’ers what rods they recommend from experience. Keep in mind my budget is under a $100 and the reel to be attached is a Abu Garcia Cardinal 101 spinning reel 6lb test. I will only be casting small/med lures with this set up. Thanks Note - Yes I know ugly stiks are the greatest [angelic] Unrelated Side Note - I hit the hole from shore last night and got devoured by bugs didnt matter if the light was on or off.[frown] I also C&R two fat crawdads. The one that I liked was made by Allstar. It was a 7' mediumlight that ran with 6-14lb test. My buddy ended up buying their graphite series that was on sale for $20. It was 6'6" and a nice rod. We only looked for one piece rods. And yes uglysticks are the greatest.LOL. [signature] Re: [BigE] Rod Recommendations - 4poundonly - 07-10-2011 Thanks for the suggestions. I prefer the 1 pc better aswell. In fact I have a very nice 1 pc Shimano Voltaeus 6'6" Med Hvy 10-14lb I mostly use for bait fishing. I have been looking at this one > [url "http://www.basspro.com/St--Croix-Triumph-Series-Spinning-Rods/product/103653/-1284081"]http://www.basspro.com/St--Croix-Triumph-Series-Spinning-Rods/product/103653/-1284081[/url] I need a rod that is light enough to throw a 4 gram crankbait a mile but not too light where it feels mushy ahh decisions decisions [signature] Re: [4poundonly] Rod Recommendations - TheWhizzle - 07-10-2011 My 2 cents: If you are fishing 4-gram crankbaits on light gear, you want mushy. You will land many more fish on that setup if you get something with a lot of give. [signature] Re: [TheWhizzle] Rod Recommendations - 4poundonly - 07-11-2011 I hear ya on the mushy is good part. But as a personal preference I prefer stiff/semi mushy. The BPS 7'6" micro light was too mushy for preferences. What rod do you generally use for your crank fishing? [signature] Re: [4poundonly] Rod Recommendations - lvfishingdude - 07-11-2011 do what i do... i got tired of breaking my expensive 100+ dollar poles, so i started buying all my poles from the bargin bin at walmart. you can get good abu garcia, ugly stick, shimano, and berkley poles for 15-40 bucks at the most. So when you break one you might be ![]() [signature] Re: [4poundonly] Rod Recommendations - vegaskid - 07-11-2011 Get a rod with micro guides. "Abu Garcia Vendetta", its a bit pricey, but a great rod. They cost around $80, and get better reviews then the newer Veritos rod which sells for $100 from the same company. ![]() Ugly sticks are tough as hell, and I have a few of them. I just don't like them anymore. They have great action, are ultra light and the line just flys through the guides. These rods are sick man. With the same pro qualifier reel, I can use my 6'9 Veritas and outcast my 7'6" nitro. Plus, be sure and check there website cause there is a rebate on those badboys and they can be had for 75 bucks. [cool] [signature] |
