Looking for fishing areas - cpierce - 06-11-2011

This is marginally on fishing anyway!

I thought I would mention a set of Internet maps that are very helpful in finding names of waters etc. It also has the topo maps available for many areas.

http://viewer.nationalmap.gov/viewer/

Once you zoom in on your area then on the left side click on "overlays" In the overlays you can add the hydrology and other geographic lables and roads etc. There are also options there on topos, shading, and the order you want the layers to show.

You can also add content from other data files.

I used to use http://www.geocommunicator.gov/GeoComm/ which is the BLM mapping site, but it cut most of its features. It is good for the SMA data server (kmz file) which you can download into Google Earth. The SMA is the surface management agency and it shows BLM land on Google Earth. It comes up as solid yellow, but it has an opacity slider on the side bar so you can make it see through.

Hope this is helpful for some of you.

Also of interest is the Idaho Dept of Lands maps that show State owned lands.

http://gis1.idl.idaho.gov/DLR/ Once again zoom in and use the layers..

For roads and trails there is the Idaho Parks site:
