Kayak wheels for a toon ? - peter805 - 06-09-2011 So I was thinking about replacing my toon single transport wheel with big fat beefy double kayak scupper wheels.................. Anybody done something like that before ? You might have to modify one but I've used mine in sand and pretty rough terrain with no issues. I believe these wheel dollys are for the sit in kayaks. Hope this helps [signature] Re: [Bassassin714] Kayak wheels for a toon ? - peter805 - 06-09-2011 Thank you for the pictures. You did a fine job ! The lightest I used was hard 18" plastic wheels from a child's front big wheel trike on a straight telescoping axle with 2 PVC cradles for the toons, with lash down to each pontoon. Two of my pontoons had a cross bar behind, so I also had a different "flip" up design which used the cross bar and saved a lot of time and space when in use. No flats with the big wheels.... MacFly [cool] [signature] Re: [peter805] Kayak wheels for a toon ? - macfly55 - 06-09-2011 I could see assassins configuration with a small loading strap permanently attached to the frame.. set your toon on the wheels/rack... tighten down the strap and you are off to the races.. :-).. but not at Delmar.. LOL.. MacFly [signature] Re: [macfly55] Kayak wheels for a toon ? - Bassassin714 - 06-09-2011 It's a Heritage "featherlight" kayak. Super flat on the bottom to provide a stable fishing platform as well as only being 38 lbs and 9.5 feet long still easy enough to tote around just not as easy as the tubes [signature] Re: [Bassassin714] Kayak wheels for a toon ? - macfly55 - 06-10-2011 have you seen the freedom hawk 12 or 14?? [signature] Re: [peter805] Kayak wheels for a toon ? - cpierce - 06-11-2011 It should work fine depending on how you attach it to the toon. You might be able to do some kind of "flip up and lock" attachment or you could remove them and either tie them on to the pontoon rack or tote them back to your truck. Flip up might be in the way of a motor if you use one. You could use a pair of "butterfly pipe clamps on the back of your rack. My major problem with the single wheel is that I was not able to put it on and off easy with the huge toon rear deck. It is a major pain in the ....... Leaving the wheel in place is no good because of the weed beds I like to go through to get to fish. So, I was thinking to extend the toon frame in the back somehow so the new wheels would be a LOT easier to get to. Also having two fat wheels is going to be nice on sand and soft dirt. The wheels do come off its frame real fast and the frame comes a part as well fast so I can just store it in my rear storage cooler (rear deck). I will post here some pictures of the set up if someone would be interested...... [signature] Re: [peter805] Kayak wheels for a toon ? - cpierce - 06-12-2011 Yes, post a picture when you get set up. Good luck. I am sure you will come up with something that works for you. [signature] |
