Line and Reel Questions - Edgy779 - 04-25-2011

Well, I am looking into getting a new reel and line, my reel at the moment is a closed reel, and has 8lb line in it. Will maybe 12lb line fit in it. I am also buying a baitcasting reel and putting 15lb line on it for catfishing also. Any ideas on what line, reels or rods to get? Also I have the light rod that is 4-8lb light action, need somethign heavier. Any ideas? Something not expensive maybe 40-60 dollars for the rod same for reel, and line i don't know prices.

My bass rods are 7ft med action. Some with fast tips, some are heavy for worming. Reels I would try and save up and get something in the $80-$100 range to last and run smooth. Bass Pro and Cabelas have some on sale all the time, but don't discount your local stores as well. I like shimano but I've had some off brands that worked as well. In the end you get what you pay for in a reel. For line, I use alot of braid.[ Fireline ] Some copolamer for cranks and poppers. 8-10lb does me fine.

I'm getting a medium action rod maybe 20lb braid and some lighter leader, the fish in the ponds i fish are very big, maybe 2-5lbs, there are big ones out there though.

Unless you have to pull a line through some tough weed, 10lb braid have brought 5lb bass to the boat. Even 8lb. The smaller line will help you get greater distance when throwing a light lure. This stuff just doesn't want to break. I use 20lb for saltwater stripers.

The line that comes with the lure is just ordinary line, i just wanna put some heavier stuff on there cause I am going to North Carolina this year looking to fish there, so i will be ready for that also, i go catfishing alot with my friends. Best bait for us is smoked sausage that is a little old, the smell attractes them from the depths. Also we throw out bread to make the bluegill splash attracting the kitties. Smile

Got a bait caster and it isn't my thing so I took it back I am use to the closed spool so much gonna stick with that or get a spinning reel.
