Hows the fishing at Lake Mead? - element - 04-21-2011 I will be going to Lake Mead this Saturday and a couple of days next week and am hoping someone on the board can give me a report on how the fishing is. I will probably go out of calville bay or echo and will be in a boat. Hows the fishing? I was recently at Lake Powell and the stripers and smallmouths were biting. Is the fishing similar at lake mead? Any reports would be greatly appreciated. Thanks! -Cory (Utah) [signature] Re: [element] Hows the fishing at Lake Mead? - syncityangler - 04-21-2011 mead is hit and miss, but you have a boat so u are at a great advantage. there are plenty of boaters here in this forum that will probly chime in soon with some tips, while you are waiting feel free to search the forum for everyones lake mead reports pretty much everyone has at least one report. The night bite will be better with the almost full moon. Check out our website for a fishing recap or post as well. Also see my pics on BFT 4-17-11. Chum like crazy and fish cut Sardines on the bottom or just off about a foot. Soft plastics, spinnerbaits, and jigs will catch most of these fish this time of year. Thanks for the feedback. Launched out of CallVille yesterday and managed one striper on a swimbait. We used the sonar, but we didnt find any schools of fish. We are thinking this next Thursday to go out of Echo, are there any reports of good success out there? Thanks again! By mid-morning/early afternoon water temps in the backs finally warmed up enough and bass were cruising. Try a light line (4-6lb test) drop shot rig with a either a 4" straight tail or a 5" curly tail roboworm in either oxblood red with red flake or aaron's magic. This set up will work well around the points and any "dark spot" you see, backsides of boulder etc. We caught several quaility fish on small shallow diving (4ft max) Norman Crankbaits, they were hitting white and shad colors best. Look for side pockets rather than the backs of major coves. Couldn't get a spiner bait or top water bite going, but they would chase the crankbait down. If they water has come up much in the last week and the water is in the "green" brushhave a Texas rigged watermelon colored Zipper worm around 5-6" tied up with a heavy weight 3/8 to 1/2 oz to crash thru the little limbs. I'm trying to attach a few pics from that trip. Good luck. You might recognize some of the coves as well we were within eyesight of Echo all day. I caught a couple spinnerbait fish early on, and it gave me the confidence to toss it most of the day. Once the spinnerbait bite never happened, I left my crankbait rod on the floor and tossed jigs all day. Neither seemed to be good decisions.
