It looks a little like a pink butt skunk. -- Steelhead fly

Not exact, but the closest I have seen. Here is a picture of a UK version. http://ukflydressing.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=salmon&action=print&thread=4798

It is a very good fly.

Another variation is the green butt skunk

Closer to it might be the Stayner Ducktail. http://flyanglersonline.com/features/lakes/part12.php

This is a fly that is universally loved by fish of all kinds!! One of my favorites!

great looking flies.. but I dont think this is a salmon fly.. FG had suggested a wooly worm.. but this one looks striped..

almost like two colors of chenille .. which I am not sure how to tie.. :-)

But it is on a Salmon Hook. Looks to me like it is a black Chenille with white as rib, or just Barber Pole wrapped. I have fished a Black Bugger with white Grizzly with great success. Watched a show once of a couple in Patagonia and this was a Drown Worm pattern. Still a great go to pattern.

I posted the pictures that I did not only because it is the closest that I have seen to the fly, but also to let you know how very effective the black and white body is. And the pink tail too!
The "skunk" is probably the "if I had only one fly" of steelhead and salmon. The Stayner is also a battleship fly of the freshwater fishies.

It looks like what you have is a simplified version of many flies -- call it what you will.

Tie it as FG said -- pretty much as a woolly worm. --- Use a streamer hook, wrap it with black tying thread. (you might even weight the front of the hook), tie on the pink tail, then tie in a black and a white piece of chennile and wrap them forward together at the same time. Tie it off and you are done.

Let us know how you do.

as I said.. those are some great looking flies you posted... might look at them just as something to tie up... :-)

but.. I think both you and FG are on the mark with the double chenille.. as my daughter described it.. red at the tail... black and white striped... so Ill have her bring it out this weekend with her and see what I see...

I was wondering about the weight myself... I dont see a beadhead so any weight would have to be wrapped under the thread...

if I get time this week Ill experiment... see what I can come up with...

btw.. FG... Ive got a small tin of flies to send you... the ones I have promised...a loooooooonnnnngggggggg time ago... :-)

I did tie up a couple of variations mainly colors but on one I used a tungsten cone and it looked good... but the original fly did not have a wing... so I did not put those in... :-)
