Headed up the bear yesterday with Ninjaset. Man that river is movin, hit a couple spots that read 20 feet deep. Ended up fising in about three feet of water with a water temp around 53. Had one bass on and a couple little hits. While we were fising we happened to find this big crappie floating in the cattails. The fish looked like it may have been dead maybe a day, but gives me hope that the area we are targeting is the right place.

the river is way high and the sloughs are all full and murky as hell. I wish all this rain would stop and conditions turn around because i havnt been able to catch crap lately and its driven me nuts.

I think I'll stay out of the river for a while, especially with all the rain and runoff. But damn if they're aren't bucketloads of worms out after all that rain! Freebait.
I hit the Bear by Benson church earlier - and there was so much slush and ice I kept getting hooked up and broke off. Tried later, but there was no 'setting on the bottom' to be had. Floated a few slip bobbers around some wood.
I'm sure hoping to find more than mudbellies and baby channels come warmer weather (assuming...ever!). Would love to find some crappie hangouts. I keep being told they are out there! That's a good sign you got there! How big was it?
Was watching some U-Tubes on crappies in spring, and folks using slip bobbers and spring bobbers with minnows/jigs. Might bring an ice pole, or spring bobber setup. See how that works on the perch/crappie come summer/spring. Could be tougher from the boat....

My basement has been comparable to Cutler Marsh for over 7 weeks now, even with a sump pump. There are mushrooms growing on things. I'm just glad it's a nasty little concrete hole and not a nice finished basement. Perhaps I should stock it [crazy]

Gotta give my boy credit - he was willing to go fishing in the rain Sunday, but alas - quickly got bored and went walking the railroad and puttering around. He did hook up a few, but with the way fresh planters bite - how could he get bored!! Maybe I need to get him a spidey or princess pole! Might make him feel more special.
Shirts - at this point I'd settle for a big fat carp on the line!
Stocking the basement - that's good. Could happen without intervention if things get high enough! Rig a sump pump to pump the crappie up to ya!
I use my goldfish as a gauge of activity. They've been lunked on the bottom last few days. Get a little sunshine on 'em, and they're on the surface frolicking! Bring it!

Yeah, you never know with this weather. Clarkston Creek isn't that far from my house and it runs into Newton. Who knows, maybe I can get some tiger musky in my basement.

Where is the Bear River fishable? I hear about it a lot and have a general idea of its location, but haven't gotten out looking because honestly don't know where to begin. Is it near Brigham City or am I completely off the map?

But it runs from - what Idaho, down to Brigham. Does it end up in the Refuge, or Willard? Runs into Corinne I think.
I've dragged along Mapquest for fair stretches of it, and we've some some long-term anglers who have "fished it for years". I am SO scratchin the surface of what's out there.
Actually planning to snaggle off to Benson and take a float today while we have some fair weather. Hope some kitties are waiting for me!
There's a lot of access points out there. Some might be a backwater carp slough, if you have a canoe - there's some great exploring to be had.

It gets fished quite a bit from Cutler Dam to the Bear River Bird Refuge too.
Seems like there are alot more Grande's the closer you get to BRBR.

If I remember right the Bear river starts at the conflucence of the Hayden's fork and another river that slips my mind up in the Unitas. I believe it empties into the great salt lake and is one of the largest rivers in the U.S that dosen't reach the sea. I'm trying to recall this from a 9th grade geography report

:Chuckles: I"ve never used wiki, I was just recalling it from a geography report I did in 9th grade. I used to always fish the bear river up around stillwater and it never really occured to me that it's the same river as I used to go catfishing on when I was a litlle kid.
