What is the location of the crappies in the spring in a pond or lake?

They can be found around broken tree limbs or other structures.

If there are any bridges going over the water, they can be found underneath certain sections of the bridge. We fish a small lake in NJ and it has a bridge going over part of it. The crappie hang out around the bottom at certain times of the day, Some one dump a x-mas tree in the area and the school hangs out there also

I think they prefer open water, around structures. Not sure about weed beds. I will ask my buddy is up on crappie fishing.
