the bass were on the move......... - macfly55 - 03-21-2011

but not to my flies... [mad]

went fishing this past Friday morning.. spent about five hours on the water at a local lake..

I saw all kinds and sizes of bass moving back and forth along the shoreline but for the life of me I could not get one to look seriously at any of my flies...

I threw everything but the kitchen sink at these guys; changed dpeths and apporaches but kept getting a Smile, a Wink, and a flip of the fin as they ignored my offerings..

I one point I found myself wishing for my spinning gear and some buzz baits .. but that was when I realized that no one around me was having any luck and that I was tired from five hours on the water..

maybe next weekend.. :-)

[#008000][Image: dumb.gif]Did you try any poppers? Maybe the low pressure coming in turned them off, but then again why should it?Go figure. [/#008000]

did you try the wooly bugger? Just a thought!
Also I have a fly that imitates a plastic worm. It is tied on a size 1 hook with a cone head. It is tied with purple (can use any color) chenile type very flashy with a black hackle tied to the tail. Have to see if I have a pic. Pulled it out of a fly tier back about 11-12 years ago.

Here is the pic of the fly. It is called the purpetrator. So as not to hijack your thread I am going to start a new one with all the recipes and articles and stuff on how to tie it and other bass bugs.

Here are my bass bug boxes. I think you might find something in there that might help you next time.[cool] A lot of what I got are similar to what the bass guys use on a regular basis with their spinning and baitcasting rigs but in fly form.[Smile]

awesome looking stuff.. just curious and you are probably covering in the other post.. but you have flies with plastic curved tails??...

Yes they have plastic curly tails. If you are speaking about the Popper's in the black box. No they do not have glitter but that would be an interesting presentation. Thosef poppers were my first attempt ever. They are nothing more than a piece of foam with a feather glued to it and painted. Didn't work too well.other stuff inthere imitate worms and fish similar to jigs. I tied up some bead head buffers in chartreuse as well.

You can use the tail off your Crappie jigs for sure. I am sure that is where the idea originated and I bet everyone has tried it.

I have also seen poppers made out of ear plugs.

Experiment as well. Tie a piece of foam to the tail of that purple getter and it would change the action big time. There is a river worm they do this with. The little piece of foam makes the tail go up and down.

Very nice Albino!
