When the ice flow breaks the Steelies can move up river to spawn! When the ice breaks that indicates a warm up of the water temps. As the water warms up a few degrees the fish start moving. Am I close? If the water is high and muddy try drifting something large with CONTRASTING COLORS such as chartreuse/orange tipped with shrimp or prawn meat tight to the bank as that is where the fish will be. Last year someone said it went out and we got up there and what do you know it wasnt blown out. Oh and the fish will be at challis within the next 2 weeks if it stays warm enough. We were up there 2 weeks ago and the whole river from the canyon to carmen was iced really bad! Didn't see much. What is up there right now is not in any numbers. There was a large ice jam just above Challis that might have broken up by now but I'm sure it was keeping some fish back. [signature]
