curing spawn , what's your favorite recipe ? - lonehunter - 09-01-2003
the fall run is upon us here in the mit , steelhead and salmon are on there way in on the west side and all over the u.p. , time to collect thoes eggs for next year and save yourself some money by collecting the eggs and tying your own sacks .
whats your favorite cure method or recipe ?

hi there bud, how ya doin?? anyways cliff and scottie went to pulaski like i said , guess we didn,t realize ya could cure em by ourselves. that,s cool. will look fer some good recipes on here so,s when we go next year we can bring some back. i guess i figured ya weren,t suppose ta. but that,s cool. will have to try it. later

I always just tie them up fresh and freeze them in jars like one dozen each. They last about a year. Works for me.

] Hey there LH, It sounds like they would rupture unless you can quick freeze them. Other than that you would want to make sure that the eggs are completely covered in water or brine solution before freezing.

I've never had any problem with rupturing the eggs-but then again,I've only used trout eggs.You also need to make sure that all the air is gone from the container or they'll freezer burn.All salmonids are suckers for the sack!
