Prime Pike Fishing - lonehunter - 10-31-2010
It's time to take advantage of some prime pike fishing .
The days are getting shorter , a little colder and the lake weeds are receding, perfect conditions for the northern to fatten themselves up before the ice forms .
I started out with some diving plugs and got a few hammer handles but it wasn't until I switched over to a large chrome Panther Martin that the big boys came out to play.
Man they gave my reel a workout you wouldn't believe , and soon my arms were just as stressed as my drag was.
These fish didn't fight as long as a King Salmon , but they did put up just as much of a fight .
Here's just a couple pics of the fish , that one on the boat seat , well that white strip is a 24" measuring tape , not bad ,huh ?
I had one bigger than him on the line , it's mouth was big enough to cram a football in ,I guess next time I'll use a steel leader .

Just a note if you go out .
I caught all the little ones in the flats of the lake , it wasn't until I hit the weed beds around the deep hole in the lake that the big pike started doing some damage to my lure .
