Catalytic heater for ice shelters. - iwantabuggy - 10-27-2010
Been browsing around the web looking at catalytic heaters and reading reviews. Several reviews indicate they aren't much good. Do they really help much inside your ice tents?

I got the Mr heater base camp heater 3,800 btu last year. It works great it is also certified for indoor use. One time last year I went to American falls reservoir it was -5 deg after about 45 min with the heater going I was in a t shirt It works great.

I use the Big Buddy heater. Sitting in a t-shirt or light jacket is quite nice while ice fishing. I would not be out there without my buddy heater. Here is a link to check out the stats of it. what about that big heater I saw you packing around a couple years ago at Chesterfield? I was pretty envious of that, that thing looked warm

do you use the 1# bottles or a aux tank. I was told you need a filter to help with the condensation, or something that interfers with the heaters opperation.

I just use the 1 # bottles. I don't use any filter or anything. Seems to work just fine.

I believe the filter is only needed if you run a hose from a seperate tank.

I have never used a filter on my Mr Heater which I run from 1lb tanks and also 20-30lb tanks using the hose, and in five years, no problems yet.

My buddy uses a small portable heater from coleman. In about 10 minutes in a small shelter we're usually shedding layers d/t the heat. And we don't even bother with the shelter unless it's below 15 F.

I use a small heater by colman it uses th one pound bottles and it works great for me in the hut. I actually can get my wife out on the ice with me if she gets to stay in the tent. Iwannabuggy and i took our wives out and they took over the hut and kicked us out in the cold.
