5:4 to 1 gear ratio - gardenhackle - 09-30-2010

Okay experts, Is a 5:4 to1gear ratio on a casting reel OK for the drift fishing we do on the Salmon? I am trying to decide on a 6 to 1 high speed on go lower with the 5 to 1. What is your ideas on the best ratio, let's hear it!

I would go with a faster retrieve so you can reel in and cast again quick. More time drifting less time reeling.

Mine is 7:1. The faster the better. Less tiring too

Thanks for the input. I found a good deal on a Revo Toro 50 LH but it was the 5 to 1 ratio. After talking to several people and getting this input I am going to get the 7 to 1 Revo SX. Less money and the higher ratio.
