Green River - fish2xtc - 09-20-2010

Hit the Green on Sept 11. Got there late afternoon and caught 2 really nice browns. They were around 20 inches. I coulndn't believe it. Once was biggest brown I have caught on a fly rod. Caught them on a grey micro scud. The next day was good in the morning. We decided to do the hike down to grasshopper island. Not a bad hike at all. The only problem was that there was a ton of moss that made it difficult to frish the back eddies and seams. But I did manage to get in one spot and caught about 5 browns. I had a really nice one that I fought for several minutes. He would keep taking my line out. First time for that. It was exciting, but he got away. Then I hooked into what I thought was going to be a beauty. He came up and I thought I had caught a 25 inch whitie. I didn't realize there were white fish in there. It was pretty big. I let the eagles take care of him. Then, as I was walking through the moss, I hit a hole and down I went. Head under and feet out from under me. Water started going down in the waders. Luckily I wasn't too far out and made it to shore. My buddies were laughing at me especially since I had to take most of my clothes off to get them dry. Glad that area has few people. It was quite the experience. Anyway, fished more later and a little the next day. Nymphed the entire time. Most success was red wd40, micro scud, and san juan worm. I think I only caught 2 rainbows the entire time and they were smaller.

But even up on the A section, many areas where I usually wade had a ton of moss. It was hard to get past it. Is it usually like that in the fall? Seems like I have been there before in October and it was never like that. I will post a few pics later. But had a great time. I love the Green. Although I am still learning, I love that place and can't wait to go back again.

Re: [kochanut] Green River - Tarponjim - 09-22-2010

My Renegade works GREAT on the Green! Anchor system is very handy for stopping on a pod of risers.

Otober fishing might be better too, and not as likely to be 10 degrees as November.
