Catfish Stocking - chizzle - 09-13-2010
When is the best time to catch stocker catfish at the urban ponds? I've tried a few times at sunset park this summer and have not had any luck at all. I was fishing at night with shrimp as bait.

The best bite for cat fish depends on lots things.I would think the best bite for catch fish is a couple days after they stock it.I have had good luck fishing before sun up till around nine. How big are your hooks? Catfish can be sneaky and will suck on the bait to feel for hooks. The smaller the hook the harder it is for them to feel it. I once caught a five pounder out of floyd lamb and he had both of my hooks in his mouth and was just laying on the bottom. I was using two different baits at once. I didn't even know he was on the line until I checked my bait.

we fished sunset pond back in may a couple days after the stocking, after 8pm/full dark, the fish started biting and didnt stop till we left at closing time 11pm we "prepped" the our fishing hole with some prepared stink bait before sunset. just chunking a few small balls of it around, then started using the same stuff and couldn't keep em off, have been back a couple times but no luck; but we ran out of that stink bait. it was called nabba cat.

Went cat fishing with Chizzle last night at Sunset Park. Used shirmps as bait and I caught 4 catfish in total on the same rod including a 3 pounder [
].The 3 friends i went with had no luck at all (all skills) [
]. All in all, it was lots of fun, there were lots of mosquitoes when we got there at 7:30 but they left around 8 and we left at 9.Here are some pictures.

Sunset is always hit and miss for me. Sometimes I slay them, sometimes not even a bite. It's definitely best after the stocks but there are some bigguns in there that survive from year to year.

When I was at floyd I saw big green signs that read "use of fish parts not allowed as bait" just ended up saving the anchovies I brought.

"Fish Parts" as in other game fish like Trout, Blue Gill, Bass and Catfish.
