Algonquin park, ontario canada - atvaholic - 08-27-2010 Well I did some camping and the boss let me get out for a few hours in the mornings on the river for some fishing. My trusty sidekick (nephew) came with me. We start downstream about 5 minutes when I notice this killer pool..super dark! I launch the boat onto the sandbar and slowly creep in...drift a worm and...BANG! Something smashed it like food was going out of style!! [inline "algonquin 2010 062.jpg"] I played the fish for about 3 - 4 minutes...he didnt come up. I kept seeing a silver flash, I dont know what it was but it was BIG....unfortunatly this was a battle I would lose [pirate] The fish let go, and I tried several more drifts before moving down river. We caught a bunch like this, the smallies were small but plentiful [inline mattty1.JPG] Finally, the nephew hooks on to about a 4lb bass...it was comical to watch his tube being towed around...and of course, strike 2!! He put the net in the water the fish jumped and spit the hook....0 for 2 today. We found a nice spot down river a bit more. He loves to use rapala's..I am more of a worm guy (we call them northern sirloin up here). I convinced him to tie on a bell sinker and bottom bounce a worm....within 5 seconds... BANG! He hooks up. By the way its fighting i know its not a bass!! He plays the fish for a couple of minutes..finally!! The skunk is off us! [inline "algonquin 2010 124.jpg"] Not a monster by any means, but brook trout fishing is tough, and she's a beute! Now I need to listen to the young punk all weekend about how "i'm loosin it", getting old, etc. Kids today...lol Anyway, we only managed to fish a total of about 7 hours and landed about 20 fish. Most were bass in the 1lb range. 2 of the fish were very large, but we squandered thos opportunities. We took home 4 bass and the one trout and had quite a meal!! I cant wait to go back! We didnt fish all that hard(family obligations kept me off the water until about 8:30 am), I have a feeling if we do, we will get our share.
