Fished it a few times also always from the north side and did fairly well like bug said there smaller but fun to catch try some smaller hooks like a 4/0 and thread some worms on.

Ha ha I was afraid of that. ya know when i first started fishing for them there was a guy in a float tube below lower salmon dam that did just that. he would go out and wait to hook one then let it pull him around then work his way to shore and land it. yes he was giggling like a school girl and i would have never be leaved it if i hadn't seen it. Just rember use a short rod as two long of one and the fish will have lot of leverage you two will be staring eye to eye. I have a 6 foot boat rod your welcome to use Ron, I just don't have a extra reel. Oh and you might want to look into circle hooks as i dont think you will have enough strength or momentum being in a float tube to set the hook

i have caught them on a 9ft bucks bag pontoon boat near hagerman caught one about 5 ft it was a kick in the pants and it was an 11 ft rod not something i would wanna do with a fish like the one i caught last night (91 incher pictures to come later) but very doable and below pillar you should be safe from getting swept into anything crazy that may kill you.
When you decide when you're going to try this feat i would like to be there because well i just love to fish and it should be fun to watch
