Im new to fishing so I dont know much about it. If Im going fishing in a river that does get deeper than 35 feet what does my setup need to be. Do I need any weights or floats ?

Your setup will also depend on the type of fish you are looking to catch. Be more specific on the types of fish and will you have a boat or be fishing from shore.

What type of bass will you be trying to catch. If you are going for largemouth bass I would say that you need to fish in inlets with a medium action rod and if you are new to fishing then a medium size spinning reel with about 14lbs line. As for Largemouth bait I am a HUGE fan of weedless soft plastics because I've had success with them. Someone else may have some better suggestions on equipment. Stripers are a little different and I'm no expert on catching them but I usually use a carolina rig with a live shad on the hook. And if you are fishing for large stripers you may want to get a heavy action rod with a large spinning reel with (depending on the situation) 30-50lbs line.
