How many rods you talking? The bags you get can hold one each. After that, Scotty rod holders- I trust them a lot more than PVC.

Well, I would like to cary four fly rods.I made a rod holder
for my float tube which works just fine for the tube but
a toon with oars is a little different situation.

I was thinking of installing four Scotty holders and be
done with it.[Smile]

The deck makes a great spot for them. Nice thing about the Scotty's is you can turn them to fan your rod tips, plus different elevations.
I occasionally take four rods out, but I only have three holders. I figure my hand is #4[cool]

On my new ride I am very limited to space because of the oars and the solid floor.
I really do need to introduce it to Pat and pick his brain on any ideas, but at the moment, I do have the sonar sort of mounted and ONE rod holder on the back, but I am looking seriously at these.

I have one tube mount Scotty and with just this bar, I could add my holders.

I know it is $44. but cheaper than buying three set ups.

[cool][#0000ff]That's a nice lookin' triple holder. [/#0000ff]

[#0000ff]But IF IT'S NOT WHITE...IT AIN'T RIGHT.[/#0000ff]
[#0000ff][/#0000ff]
[#0000ff]I'd be happy to look over your new ride and offer some ideas. There are usually several options, depending upon construction, the sonar system and where you want it mounted for best viewing. I have engineered quite a few snap/strap-on systems that do not require any permanent modifications. Let's see what your D ring configuration looks like.[/#0000ff]

[#0000ff]Hope to have some smoky kittyfish soon. Maybe I can make a delivery and take a looksee.[/#0000ff]

Or lack of D rings. I just added two more so I can slide my side bags back.
I will take some shots tonight at all angles.
I am at a loss.
If I can't buy it and hook it on..I have no idea...LOL

With the fly rod holders it is. You have a choice.

Re: [peter805] Madison on order / rod holder - Jim_T - 05-27-2010

Peter,

fmrusmc posted this picture earlier of a PVC rod mount that clamps on a round frame tube. He said he bought them at Lowe's but my Lowe's doesn't have them (or the guy didn't know where they were).

I was thinking that if it fit on the frame along the seat or even on the outside of the bag without interfering with my casting I could mount a few on the left side. I put 3 rods in the bag now but the tips get tangled.

However, until I can buy a couple, I can't test them.

Maybe you could look at your Lowe's.

There are Saddle clamps
[inline "PICT0026 (Small).JPG"]
used by sprinkler guys to tie in to a line that are threaded with either 1/2" or 3/4" so you can get to a 1" PVC tube , like what TD builds to hold either fly or other rods.

[inline "PICT0025 (Small).JPG"]

I have been useing them for 2 years now and believe they are very good.

Here are a few setups. On this notice the velcro. I get the self adhesive kind and attach it to the tube and then wrap around the rod above the reel as an added precaution to keep the rods in, also the 1" T's are not glued so that they rotate to help keep the rod tips from coming together and also you can tilt them level with the water, if needed< when flinging a fly. I have not caught my rods yet[Wink]

Hope this gives you some ideas.

I use the same items. They are at lowes in the sprinkler parts section. They are Saddle clamps. They have them in two sizes. I currently have four of them on my toon.

Thank you everyone for your ideas. I like the Saddle clamps and the scotty holders as well.
I just need wait for the boat to arrive and play around with it and see what would work the best for my.
I will post pictures of what ever I come up with as always.

Re: [peter805] Madison on order / rod holder - peter805 - 05-28-2010

How about this idea, and its just a idea..............[Smile]
Place the rod holder (of whatever type) where the
left side pocket is. In other words, remove the side
pocket and place the holder there.
That way the rods will not stick out as much in the
back of the boat and it would be a lot more easier to
get to them.[crazy]
What do you guys think ?

Re: [flygoddess] Madison on order / rod holder - peter805 - 05-29-2010

Re: [flygoddess] Madison on order / rod holder - peter805 - 05-29-2010

lol

I think I just need to wait for the boat to get here and take
it out on the water couple of times and see what would work for me.
Maybe Im just over thinking it for now.................[Smile]
