bearded turkey question - trophyboat - 05-08-2010

so i was reading the proclamation about what requirements you must meet to take a turkey and i noticed that it states you make take "any bearded turkey" and it also says 20% of female turkeys have beards. Does this mean you can harvest a female if it has a visible beard?????
any info is greatly appreciated.

Yes, any bearded turkey. My dad got a bearded hen 3 seasons ago. He checked with the authorities and they said that it was perfectly legal.

Just making sure..... cause i shot me a little turkey with a 4inch beard that I believe was a hen. I didn't plan on hunting a turkey this year but thursday evening i went up on the bear river fishing and ran into 6 of em, that was the 3rd time i have seen turkeys up there this spring so i decided to buy a tag.
Up early friday on a good old solo trip on the river for a cast and blast, ended up with some carp and this small turkey, almost had one that had an 8 or so inch beard but it got away,(just another hunting story). O well he will be there next year. here is a pic

and by next year he'll be an 11 or 12 inch bird and you'll have quite a trophy on your hands.

Good on ya for having a successful hunt. That's a good looking bird even if she is a she. [Wink]

thanks,
The day before the hunt i was about 15 yards from that big one, he didn't even fly once he seen me, he actually ran from my left across to my right, at that point i packed up all the fishing stuff and went home to get a tag and ready to go the next morning. I jumped him the day of the hunt and he was like a 747 air plane taking off. I am hooked now, something to keep me occupied between ice off and summer fishing.
