need advice on Plastics - jgpliskn - 04-24-2010

Hi, I live in NC and usually fish around High Rock, Thom-A-Lex, and I occasionally make weekend trips to James lake. I have just recently decided to try and make the jump from live baits to plastics. A friend has suggested to me that I start with a 6 inch zoom lizard on a Carolina rig. I would like to get everyone's thoughts on this

Whats the structure type? Senkos and texas rigged tubes/worms are good too.

Any time I throw a caralina rig, it will at most times have a lizard on the end of the hook. It seems to work better for me than a worm. But as always try both to see what they want that day.

It depends on what the cover / structure is as to whether I use a carolina rig or a texas rig. The carolina will allow you to cover much more water, and if I am using one - almost always with a lizard.

For me and the waters I fish, Carolina-rig or split shot rigged lizards are nice in November and right when the ice comes off in the Spring. Lizard populations are a lot different in PA than NC.

You need to make the bait look alive and lizards work good even if lizards are not native where you live, if they are thats even better. I also fish a weightless Yum Dinger, which is Yum's version of a senko, or a u tail worm all texas rigged weightless. I am getting some swimbaits soon

Yea, don't skip trying to rig different rigs until you find what works best for you, there are many different rigs, all productive at different times of year and day...

Another thing to add to my post, i have a light action rod becuase the fish in my lake are at max 5lbs, and i like fighting the fish not dragging it in without a fight, so there is a slot on the Dinger where you can have your hook, its not buried in the worm but its weedless. Works perfect. Picked up 2 packs of it yesterday. Also where can i get glass beads anyone know, i cant find any to wal mart

Oh ok, one rig I haven't used much... YET... Like to always learn new and possibly better ways... Wouldn't they have those at Cabela's or Bass Pro?
