Good Deal? - k_fish_4_fun - 03-17-2010

I thought I would pass this on for anyone interested. I noticed that Cabelas had some new pontoon boats listed. One looks like it is similar to Scaddens Outlaw (a favorite of Flygodess). This one is from Sea Eagle and is similar in size and shape, and is also frameless, maybe even bladerless. However, it does have a floor in it and an options for a rigid standup floor as well. At seaeagle.com they have the boat loaded with options at even a much better price, than Scaddens pre-season specials for any of his boats, or what Cabelas has either of them listed at. New options to consider Smile

Those are cool, but they do require slats, so somewhat of a frame so to speak.
I saw them many years ago. Don't hear of anyone using them, but they are still around, so they must be selling.
They roll up nice and made of a good material.

More along the lines of a Zodiac....Boat. Not kick able and looks like more for multi person.

I wondered about removing half the floor and making it kickable (without a standup platform, seems like a simple mod and they seem close enough to the scadden model that for over 300 bucks cheaper you could have just about the same thing. But then again, I wonder about something smaller anyway, so it probably isn't for me even though I am 6' tall, it just seems like a 9 footer would be too big?

Nine footer is pretty normal....nice on the waves.
I went from a 6' Alpine to an 11' Cardiac Canyon, and now a 10'6" Outlaw.
The wider the boat, the more stable as well.
I don't stand up every trip, but I can if I want to, and I like that.

You must like the bigger boats, in ways I miss the smaller doughnut tubes I started out in. everything close, and having the fish splash in my face when you bring them in close. Sp, with that size of boat, how is the stretch when you bring the fish to the tube?

A side note, in reading and catching up in post on the board yesterday, I saw/noticed that you were making a rod for a winter project, but I didn't see anything posted about finishing it up. How did it turn out? I am suprised that as a tuber you don't look towards the longer rods like 10 footers? But again that is my preference. I like to drop the tip in the water when I fish under the surface and the long rods allow me to do that much more naturally. In particular I would think that would come even more into play with a higher riding boat?

I get splashed in the face...[cool] I use a guide net which does have the longer handle. It is easier for me to land the fish between my legs still in the water. Then I just reach in and snap the picture. Don't have to lay the fish on an apron or anything else.

I feel more secure in a bigger boat and yes I started out in a donut lets just say, over 25 years ago[Wink]
Plus I have been know to float a river.

as far as rods, I have a 10' and a 9'6" and love them on the rivers because of the mending ability.
But I can cast a 7'er 50 to 60 feet fairly easy, so don't see much need for a longer rod on my toon or tube.
But nothing wrong with the long stick...they are cool.
To be honest, two of my rods I usually take out are 9' and one 8'6" and an 8'er.

I did finish the rod. It is a 7'9" 4/5 Glass/Graphite. SWEET!!!!!!

Great, thanks for sharing that with us.
It makes it special to catch one on a rod you know you made yourself. That is all I fish with anymore, is homemade, somehow it just doesn't seem the same with a store bought one.

Amen! And the Mojo home rolled have. The test day, I was the first to catch and the most...I think it was the rod.....maybe the homemade fly....or the Sharkskin with the homemade furled leader....[laugh]
Now I could tell you I sewed my waders, but....well, that is another story...LOL
