Wiring a pontoon. - ice_sled - 03-10-2010 A few years ago i saw a post that showed wiring a remote switch for a trolling motor on a pontoon. I think it was Flygoddess that had some pics and instruction. Any help would be appreciated. I bought a little metal box at Radio Shack, but pretty sure a regular outlet box and face place would work. I also picked up a big radio knob at RS. The wire is a flat wire ribbon with 4 or 5 wires in it, but any wire harness will work. I then took the head off the motor and spliced the wires. Take the head apart and remove the reo stat. I glued it to the lid of the metal box and made notches where each click was. Later made the numbers. Pretty easy once you get the material. The motor ended up small and compact and the controls, I could put right next to me. If I had the motor on and got a hook up, it was easy to shut the motor off to land the fish. What kind of motor do you have? I heard someone bought one of those foot on off switches and attached it to his pontoon foot pegs. The problem is, you steer with your flippered feet. You can steer with a motor, but pontoons and tubes really aren't designed for this. So you wear flippers and steer. With the foot peg mount, he had a hard time with the flippers on. So, I came up with the FIXED position on the motor and all gears forward and reverse plus off anywhere on my boat. This was originally thought of because of my float tube and power float days. As you have already noted, it is hard to reach the motor controls from the front seat[laugh] I am very interested to see tour set up!!!!! [signature] |
