Lakers at McCall - icehogger84 - 02-26-2010 Just wondering if any of you crazy anglers have ever tried for lake trout through the ice at payette lake in McCall? If so can you share some tips on lure presentation, lure type, cutbait or crawlers, deep or shallow? Any help would be great, I'm headin up on sun. w/ a friend. I tried ice fishing several times, but without success. I do know people who do OK, and think if I had been fishing my summer hot spots I would have done better. I suggest you use large jigs--4-6 inches, with either a full night crawler or piece of sucker. Fish it a foot or more off the bottom. Would you let me know how you did--I'm curious. You can PM me if you'd like. P.S.: use green or blue and silver on the jigs. I read up on lakers in my "Ice Fishing Secrets" book from in fisherman. I went to cabela's and got white 4" tubes w/ 1/4oz jig heads. Jigs, is that what you meant by octopus jigs? The kind w/ the little legs off the back? Anyway, I'll be putting some kind of cut bait inside the jig body and the book has some really good presentation tips but basic depth is 1'-3' foot off the bottom for deadsticking. Thanks again, Hogger [signature] Re: [icehogger84] Lakers at McCall - jigs - 02-28-2010 ya those are the ones. they have those glow ones you put your light to. We could see 'em on the vexilars we were using but all they would would do is follow the lures, they wouldn't bite at all. It sure made for some intense anticipation watching them come off the bottom and chase our jigs! Every time we would reel real fast and they would follow the bait up to about 40ft then just stop and swim back to the bottom.
