Early predictions - jigs - 02-04-2010 The pre-season spring and summer Chinook salmon run forecast predicts about 160,000 adult hatchery fish and almost 30,000 wild fish to cross Lower Granite Dam now i know these are very early predictions and after last years prediction of 128,000 and only 60,000 actualy coming i know its far to early to get excited but with all the jacks that came back last year i cant help it [sly] [signature] Re: [jigs] Early predictions - prvrt - 02-04-2010 You are not the only one hoping for some great returns. I had a blast last year Salmon fishing and plan on hitting it for a week to 10 days this year. When we stopped at the hatchery, I could not believe all the fish. They were loading trucks as fast as they could. I think it will be a great year, but who knows. I really want something over 36" this year. [signature] Re: [chrome_junky] Early predictions - ChrisTheFish - 02-04-2010 I'm in! [signature] Re: [chrome_junky] Early predictions - prvrt - 02-04-2010 Works for me! [signature] Re: [prvrt] Early predictions - chrome_junky - 02-04-2010 now i hope more people would show up than prvrt and i. [crazy] [signature] Re: [chrome_junky] Early predictions - windriver - 02-04-2010 Its not that I don't want to fish with you guys its only that my July calendar already shows a week at Oxbow for bass, crappie, and catfish, the fourth of July for family, a week in Yellowstone for high adventure with the venture scouts at Shoshone Lake (Lake Trout) a four day pioneer handcart trek with my church youth group, and oh ya my fifth child is due the first week in August.[crazy][cool] If you plans happen to fall on an open date I might make it. Windriver [signature] Re: [chrome_junky] Early predictions - flygoddess - 02-04-2010 Okay, explain to me...JULY, SALMON. Is it great fishing this time of year? What species? Camp Grounds? I hear of the Salmon all the time, and would love to join in on this, but is July a good time? [signature] Re: [flygoddess] Early predictions - chrome_junky - 02-04-2010 in july the chinook salmon move into the stretch of the salmon river that runs through challis and the fishing can be amazing. from what i hear catching a King on a fly rod is like trying to catch a bus and im sure its accurate because they put up one heck of a fight on spinning gear. camping access is awesome in challis the deer gulch campground has more than enough room to accomodate a little BFT get togather and it was free last year. make sure you bring plenty of light weight long sleeve shirts and long pants when your not wearing waders and a mosquito net for your face heck im even gonna make sure my hands are covered cause the mosquitos are the worst i have ever seen and ive seen bad mosquitos i lived in louisiana. and mosquito spray doesnt do any good its just like steak seasoning for them. [signature] Re: [windriver] Early predictions - chrome_junky - 02-04-2010 sure wind river whatever you say![ ![]() [signature] Re: [windriver] Early predictions - cpierce - 02-05-2010 Congratulations - a bit ahead of time! Where is Oxbow?? [signature] Re: [chrome_junky] Early predictions - jigs - 02-05-2010 i'm with you chrome i have never seen skeeters like they were up there last summer. and the rain was often enough to wash the spray right off you. i am pretty sure i am immune to west nile virus or else i would of had it for sure. im not going to lie though i actualy thought there predictions would be a bit higher. with as many jacks that came back last year. I found that being out in the river really made a difference. I am thinking that since they over estimated the Steelhead a bit, they may be playing it a bit more conservative on the Salmon. It always looks better if you reach your predictions. [signature] Re: [cpierce] Early predictions - windriver - 02-05-2010 Thanks. Oxbow is inbetween Brownlee and Hells Canyon Res. On the Idaho Oregon boarder. We go every year for about a week and have a great time. Windriver [signature] Re: [windriver] Early predictions - chrome_junky - 02-05-2010 congrats ahead of time also. do you know if its going to be a baoy or girl yet? [signature] Re: [chrome_junky] Early predictions - STEELHEADKID - 02-05-2010 Hopefully the season will materialize! I've caught them in years past on opening day on the lower clearwater when there was only 400 something fish over lower granite! Unfortunatly I wont be around to fish for them in Idaho this year since I'll be working at a lodge in alaska from may until september but I'll be back just in time for chromers on the clearwater! [signature] Re: [STEELHEADKID] Early predictions - iliketofish - 02-05-2010 "Unfortunatly I wont be around to fish for them in Idaho this year since I'll be working at a lodge in alaska from may until september" Man that sounds rough! send me some of your misfortune! Hope you have a good time and post pics! [signature] Re: [jigs] Early predictions - Got_Bait - 02-07-2010 True, but all they had to do was forecast the biggest run of all time to sell a salmon tag to every fisherman in the state (or surrounding states). In 2001 the adult spring and summer returns combined for 185,000. Looks like they are calling for 5,000 more than that. I sure hope they are right. [signature] Re: [Got_Bait] Early predictions - aintnonookie - 02-07-2010 Rumor has it that there is going to be a season, but fishing will be from Pahsimeroi downstream to Salmon- no fishing above the Pahsimeroi. I guess we'll see... [signature] Re: [aintnonookie] Early predictions - prvrt - 02-07-2010 If that is true, it is going to be very crowded in that area. I actually enjoyed fishing in that area because of less people, "other than the Ellis Hole". Sure hope there are some good numbers this year and they keep it open to Stanley. [signature] |
