Electrical Question - Potsy - 01-26-2010

[mad] I have a fish finder that takes 8 AA's but today it was wet in the battery part a AA batt. in 1.5 v 8 of them = 12 so can I just move the wires off of the AA case and hook them up to a small 12 v battery. took the damb thing clear up the canyon and found moisture and bad batteries.

Yes, but you should put a 3 amp fuse in line.

12 volts is 12 volts. Your on the right track. It is best to use a fuse in line on the positive side to protect the finder.
Most of us use the 7 amp hour 12 volt sealed gel batteries and recharge with a 1.5 amp hour charger. The set of battery and charger should run about $25. Try Sportsmans or Cabelas.
That same battery will also run any 12 volt accessory, so a simple cigarette lighter receptacle and a alligator clip on each wire can be handy for radios. lights, what ever is 12 volt.
