McTucker ponds 12/18/09 - sten668 - 12-19-2009

Finally got out this morning. McTucker had about 6-8 inches of ice.
Fished on the NE end of the largest pond to the East. We put out 4 poles and 6 tip-ups. Got there about 9:00 and missed so many it took us till noon to fill our limits. I don't know if it is an advantage or diSadvantage to have more than on pole. Smallest 12 inches largest 18 inches all bows. No perch, bass, cats or gills.

It is south Springfield and north of the Snake river. If you go to google maps and find Springfield, Id then click on the satellite button and look to the south and a little bit to the east you can see the 8 ponds. I have caught some nice fish out McTucker creek and it is open all year round.

Fished it today. Quite slow. Caught 10 bows, biggest being 14" and it had one eye and half a nose. Most fish were 10"-12". That was in 6 hours of fishing.

8 ponds, only 7 are really fishable. Cats are in most, but Pond 1 is the main pond for them.

After looking that over on Google earth how can you tell which pond is what number?
Do the ponds have a warm spring going into them?
Has anyone every caught a good sized one there?

No springs , and all there is in there are planters . They try and put different fish in each pond . Like BlueGill in one and Catfish in a Couple , Trout in a couple . They gave up because almost every spring McTucker Creek flooded the ponds and mixed everything up . I think Pond 1 is the First one on the right going in on the main road , but i would not bet on it . Curt G P.S. There are perch in them also .

A few springs, most is just sub water from McTucker creek and the river. The ponds are numbered as follows.

[ol][li]First pond on the west side, Long and narrow.[/li][li]First pond coming in on the N.E. Side.[/li][li]Pond East of 2[/li][li]Pond east of 3[/li][li]First pond on the S.E. side.[/li][li]Pond East of 5[/li][li]S.E. of 6[/li][li]Big Pond S.E. of 6[/li][/ol]There are Rainbows, Blue Gill, Green Sunfish, LMB, and Catfish in the ponds. They do stock the ponds though out the summer with trout and a few catfish. The catfish, Blue Gill, Green Sunfish and Bass are self sustaining for now in some ponds.

Figured I would post my map I have. It is marked with what I have either caught or seen as far as which fish are in which pond. Great place for the kids in the summer. As far as the pond numbers, this is as close as I can get from talking with F&G.

Re: [idahoron] McTucker ponds 12/18/09 - prvrt - 12-25-2009

I went down there today for a few hours because I had to try out the new toy. Bought a Cabelas under water camera. Worked great. First fish I seen when I put the camera in the water was a Perch. It was all alone and never seen any more. I did see about 4 trout cruise by and caught 4 small planters around 11"-12". First time I have seen a perch in there in years. Back in the early 90's there were tons of them until we had the 97' flood and they pretty much washed out. This was in pond 8, so hopefully there are some more in there and things will get back to normal. It was a very slow day compared to a few weeks ago.

So far it has worked better than expected. Tomorrow I am heading down to Twin Lakes and Lamont. I will have more time to play with it then and maybe see more fish. One thing I have learned just from using it at McTuckers is that where you drill your holes makes a big difference in catching fish. The one hole I caught most of the fish was a bare spot about 6 feet in dia surrounded by weeds. The other holes were in bare waste land with no weeds and no fish. I can see it working quite well to retrieve lost items also.

I really wanted the Aqua VU with the 4 cameras, but they are going quite high in price right now and I also heard they were going out of business.

Being able to drill one hole and look for a small ridge in the bottom scape and weed lines is huge! Have fun with the new toy. Is their a video connection? I'd love to see the pics! The biggest restriction I have found is water clarity. Some lakes are great where others are hard to see past a foot or two.
