kokes - fearnofish1996 - 12-17-2009
ok i know this may be a stupid question to alot of you out there. I am trying to identify the difference between a koke and a rainbow in devils creek. i have a caught alot of fish there this year and i have a hard time believing i havent caught any kokes but i dont know how to identify them. Any input would be greatly appreciated. please help me.

The most obvious difference between the two is in the tail. Kokanee have a forked tail whereas Rainbows have a non-forked tail. Kokanee also tend to be more silvery this time of year but Devils creek does have some pretty silvery Rainbows. I don't think the Kokes in Devils creek are all that abundant. I've caught 1 or 2 in about 10 trips ice fishing there. Hope this helps! Tight lines

When you look at 5 trout and 1 Kokanee the difference will be so apparent you will know!

The forked tail is the dead giveaway. Kokes are also extremely oily. If you touch them you will know it. On the other hand you could do the taste test. Kokes taste like salmon and most trout taste like crap.[
] J/KI have caught several kokes in Devils.
