Fishfinder help - I_FISH_HENERYS - 12-15-2009 I'm looking to purchase a fishfinder soon for ice fishing but not sure which one to get. I have looked at vexilar, hummingbird, and showdown. I would like to get as many opinions as I can before I make a purchase. Your help is highly appreciated. Thanks. Honestly if you want to hear more on the debate go to the Utah board and search the archives on this topic, a great deal has been said, but many people would scream if they ever lost their Vex. I have never had a more reliable piece of equipment and I mean on everything: toasters, labtops, washer/dryer anything. Especially if you check this link. www.vexilar.com/pages/products/products_outlet.html It will take you to their page of reconditioned flashers. much cheaper and you still get the same warranty as new! Once I've saved enough for one that's where I'm headed! [signature] Re: [I_FISH_HENERYS] Fishfinder help - MattinIdaho - 12-15-2009 I've been happy with my Marcum VX1. I have fished side by side with a Vexlar FL18 and was really happy with mine. I did a lot of research before I bought mine and decided for my needs I would save the cash and go with the VX1. It is the same price range as a FL8 but has the split screen like the Fl18 or FL20. I have nothing bad at all to say about Vexlar but I have loved my Marcum and there are a lot of people who love them just as much as the Vexlar. My 2 cents.[ ![]() [signature] Re: [I_FISH_HENERYS] Fishfinder help - MMDon - 12-15-2009 Lowrance X67C is probably the best unit on the ice today! You have better pixels for the flasher mode and you can put it in fish finder mode and use it as a portable on your boat. They even make them with GPS so you can mark the exact spot you were fishing last year. You can get a second transducer that fits on your electric trolling motor as well. Just a thought. ![]() [signature] Re: [I_FISH_HENERYS] Fishfinder help - windriver - 12-15-2009 This debate has been hashed out on internet boards for years. Check the archives. There really is no one right answer. Some like the vexilar, some Marcum, others the Lowrance x67. I would stay away from the showdown from reports that I have gotten. My friend had an x67 ice machine. He really liked it until I smoked him with my Vexilar right next to him. [cool] Probably had nothing to do with the fishfinder, but he sold it and bought a vexilar. I am very addicted to flashing lights and the progression from green, to orange, to red...When you start to understand what is going on your heart rate goes up as the fish comes in. It is pretty wild. If you go with a flasher get one with a split screen. The zoom feature is really important for perch and bottom huggers. Windriver [signature] Re: [windriver] Fishfinder help - OvidCreek - 12-15-2009 That addiction can be quite painfull; I love watching green-orange-red, especially in big fish areas. People who are addicted to flashers often have a back and neck ache, becuase they stare constitenly at the thing. Heck after 10 hours of fishing I even have the soft hum in my head from the sound it produces.
