'Toon mods, mid-Atlantic style - NewRiverRat - 11-26-2009 I’d like to say hello and tell you I like this place. I’ve been looking at pics of mods and can tell, “These are my people”. My home water is the New River in southwest Virginia, and has been for over 30 years (got a late start). Anyway, I’m picking up ideas from this forum, and thought I’d share some of my modifications. I row an ODC 1018 that is like fishing from your recliner in your living room. My very first mod was making this anchor riser to keep my chain from dragging in low water areas. Anchor line guide. This is my rear rod holder and storage crate for a dry box. The other side with my coolerator. K-pump and catch net. Left and right rod holders. Tool/lure holder under right oar. Cup holder under left oar. I use this bungee/carbiner combo to keep the ‘toon from leaving while in shallow current. Swivel seat mount. Loops to hold oars while inactive. Well, this it what I use mostly to float these days. I’m designing a folding standing platform and leaning bar. It was great. My dog can run around on the deck, I had the cloth seat that folded flat, and the pontoon was definitely big enough to be well balanced. The problem I had was I need something to grab hold of. Even in the river, I use a wading staff. I had ideas on some kind of lean bar but never got around to it. Sold that pontoon and the new one has all that. Very nice mods. You use the chain as an anchor too? The chains, along with the amount of line released, regulate the speed I float. In a "normal" flow, two chains are usually all that's needed. If I need to anchor, my rope is extended quite a bit longer, or my favorite is simply to park on ledges, berms or boulders. FWIW, I've replaced the pics in the original post with larger ones. Have several lengths to add or take off. Again, how is your balance when you stand? I have a friend that will stand on his toons, but the water has got to be pretty calm.
