Strawberry or Scofeild - KC5 - 11-10-2009 Hola, fellow fishermen and women, I am burning a day of work Wednesday before the next storm hits and I am taking my Dad who is (76) for one last horray before the ice starts forming. Can't decide which lake to hit, He loves to eat fish and has a hard time with catch and release, he is old school, you fish to fill the freezer, not for sport. I would love to have him experience the thrill of those big Strawberry Cuts, I know it would kill him to turn loose a big cut, Scofeild would be a better choice for table fair but the fish are small but plentiful. What would you do, It would be a thrill for him to land a big old cut, if I could just convince him to toss it back, do you catch enough bows at the berry to make it worth it or is it pretty much cuts this time of year. Any advise would be apreciated. I cherish the time I have fishing with my dad, we have shared many a day on the water, I want ever trip he has left in him to be memorable. Thanks [signature] Re: [KC5] Strawberry or Scofeild - tlarson - 11-10-2009 will you fish from shore or from a boat? i know a few spots you can catch several cutthroats and a few rainbows it might be a good idea to tell your father that you would like to make a video of the fishing trip to prove those fish stiories that come from fishing the berry and a way to show everyone what your day was like. and with a little luck you might catch a few rainbows to for him to take home, but best of all its the trip and time you share togather. and with any luck i might see you up there. good luck fishing!!! i added a couple of pictures of the day i took one of my sons fishing it was a good day. It has been my experience that one will average about 1 rainbow for every 30 to 35 cutts. If keeping fish is that important to your father you probably ought to take him to Scofield; however, if he keeps the first four fish that he catches there it will likely be an extremely short fishing trip and the odds are that he will end up with some small fish. My experience at Scofield is that one catches a lot of small fish for every decent size one. Thanks for the pic's. I think I will give him the choice and enjoy either way. I'll let you know how it goes. Maybe we can go to the berry and keep a couple of over the slot cuts and that will satisfy him. The trout are plentiful and we have caught some nice sized ones in the last couple of weeks. Just release the smaller ones. Also, the wind doesn't pose as much of a problem as it does at Strawberry. Just a thought. Here's a pic of average trout. [signature] Re: [KC5] Strawberry or Scofeild - pkred - 11-10-2009 +1 Deer creek is easy pickin for decent size fish. Not as many "biguns" but great for table fair. [signature] Re: [KC5] Strawberry or Scofeild - co_man_in_utah - 11-10-2009 Went to Strawberry today. Zero fish at Haws point. Went over by Soldier creek and caught 4 Bows (pan size, nothing to brag on) and 1 large cutty. All were caught off the shore with rainbow colored rapala and z-ray lures. Had some other hits with rainbow colored power bait. Talked with a couple others that said that fishing for them and the others around them over by chicken creek was slow. They saw 1 guy catching a few, but nothing to brag about. Hope this helps. Good Fishing! [signature] |
