full moon =( - peter805 - 11-01-2009 Ok, full moon is just about here. Im not sure about you but for me it seems like every time there is a full moon the fishing just sucks. What do you think? [signature] Re: [peter805] full moon =( - cpierce - 11-01-2009 I don't know if it is so or not. Has there been a full moon all month long? If so, I think that is what has been keeping the little fishies out of my net!! For me, I am not used to fishing this late in the fall, and I have not learned to adjust to the changing water temps and the fish's changes in patterns. Do fish feed that much at night by moonlight that it would effectively change their bite in the day?? [signature] Re: [peter805] full moon =( - lurtch - 11-01-2009 THIS IS JUST MY EXSPERIENCE...3 to 4 days before and after full moon..fish feed all nite..which makes any fishing durring the day..bad..just switch your fishing hours accordingly..instead of starting at 7 in the morning..start at 3 or 4 am..youll be surprised [signature] Re: [peter805] full moon =( - Dryrod - 11-01-2009 [font "Comic Sans MS"][#008000][size 3]When the moon is full it is seen as such all over the world. It only remains or appears to be full for a day or two. If there are two full moons in a given month then it is known as a harvest moon. Now the question is which of the two full moons in a given month do the fishes prefer?[/size][/#008000][/font][font "Comic Sans MS"][#008000][size 3] Just kidding - it really doesn't matter.[/size][/#008000][/font] [signature] Re: [peter805] full moon =( - flygoddess - 11-02-2009 To respectfully[angelic] disagree with another poster on a different forum, it DOES effect TROUT (good or bad). Maybe not catfish or bottom dwellers, but TROUT you betcha. Rivers don't seem to be as effected as stillwater. I am a big believer ing the solar and lunar tables. It has got me into fish more than once. I don't plan around these things but I do know I have to work harder at finding what works on the old FULL MOON. I will try that 3 or 4 AM one of this days and see what happens.[ ![]() thank you Peter [signature] Re: [flygoddess] full moon =( - peter805 - 11-02-2009 I agree with you 100 % girl. However this "another poster" did have a good point about the predatory fish feeding all nite and digesting they meal during the day. I can see that when Im bass fishing for sure. Peter [signature] Re: [peter805] full moon =( - lurtch - 11-02-2009 beleive it or not about noon to 2 pm is pretty good too..maybee its the afternoon snack..i really dont know for sure [signature] Re: [lurtch] full moon =( - albinotrout - 11-02-2009 I do notice that there are different times of day that are better than others. But hey, I fish when I fish. If it slows down then it is time to fine another hole or do something else for a couple of hours.[cool] [signature] Re: [peter805] full moon =( - flygoddess - 11-02-2009 What is a predatory fish? They all are to a point. With the exception of Koke that eat Plankton. F.Y.I. The Yellowstone Cutts in Henry's don't eat other fish...just bugs. But all fish eat bugs, mammals, and some other fish. So they are all predators. With the full moon, they just eat at night and lets face it, there are more bugs at night for the most part. As far as the WORLD WIDE....it would work as well, why wouldn't it? Like I said, I have caught fish during the day of the full moon, but it is more isolated. More certain times like Lurtch said. It is real however, and I don't think it is just a good excuse[ ![]() [signature] Re: [flygoddess] full moon =( - peter805 - 11-02-2009 Yes, you are right. The bottom line is that there IS a difference and like you said all fish are predatory in one way or other. Even when I went to Sierras last time it was a full moon. I went there because that was the time I was able to. For sure I caught less fish (trout) but they were all bigger then the "normal" size. Maybe the big ones feed day and nite? All caught on streamers like Matuka and woolly bugger. Does that make any sense ? Peter [signature] Re: [peter805] full moon =( - flygoddess - 11-02-2009 I was going to say, try small flies and then try large. I do think full moon you see a dramatic difference. Not saying they won't hit, but at times I have had to go really small and other times big. I think figure out which and you should be good for the whole day. Heading to Jordanelle Reservoir in UT for a little trout action.[ ![]() [signature] Re: [peter805] full moon =( - albinotrout - 11-04-2009 I will give you my report on the subject. Went out today on Jordanelle Reservoir in UT and found that the fish had a bad case of lockjaw. I think they had a party last night and slept in for nothing was really biting. [crazy][/quote] lol, thank you for the report. I see that is not only me. But hey , its still nice to get out there on the water[ ![]() Peter [signature] Re: [peter805] full moon =( - flygoddess - 11-04-2009 Sorry dudes, but was a great day for me. I didn't make it up to Jordanelle, but rather the pond. Have to help a Scout get his badge tomorrow, so I went down to check it out. Now before you say, "It's a public pond with planters, how hard can it be" I can tell without bragging, I was the only one catching anything. Reason....I fly fish and I can fish the surface. I will say it took a few cast to figure it out and they were hitting flies half their size....must be hungry. ![]() [signature] Re: [flygoddess] full moon =( - peter805 - 11-04-2009 Nice going sister !!! what kinda fly is that? Tarantura ? Peter [signature] Re: [peter805] full moon =( - flygoddess - 11-04-2009 MUDDLER and a size 4 at that. They were smacking it ON the water. The minute it landed. But, while I was casting, I couldn't get to my camera in time, but out of the corner of my eye, I kept seeing something in the grass next to where I was standing. Finally he came running out, heading for my sling that was laying on the ground. Well cute as he was, I have no idea what he is packing with him so I shuffled my feet and he ran back in the grass. A few seconds later, he jumped in and swam across in front of me. Which leads to the joke...how does the mouse get to the other side of a fly fisher? Anyway, that Muddler looks allot like a mouse. [signature] Re: [flygoddess] full moon =( - peter805 - 11-04-2009 Sweet ! Muddler it is. You should of fly line that mouse out there and see that happens[ ![]() Peter [signature] |
