I intentionally went trolling crankbaits for catfish today. What?? You say. Well, the freezer is full of crappie, I’ve caught quite a few bass lately, and it’s not time for sauger yet. So, I decided to see what would happen if I targeted cats with my trolling. I have caught 7 in my last two outings. So, I knew there were an unusual number near the creek ledges. But today I fished more flats (14 to 16 feet deep) and in the deeper part of the old creek beds (down to 27 feet). I caught 7 catfish, mostly channel cats, and of course some crappie and about a dozen bass that were too small for pictures. I kept 5 cats for my neighbor as he no longer can fish. The keepers were from 3 to 7 1/4 pounds.
