Maybe I've seen Jaws one too many times . . .
A while back a friend of mine who kayaks told me he's taken his yak into the ocean to fish. I thought that was pretty nutty. Then I read some posts (on this site I think) saying that people take their tubes out in the ocean - I thought that was even more nuts.
Just this morning I started listening to a book called "On the Run: An Angler's Journey Down the Striper Coast" - (so far it's pretty good and I'd recommend it to anyone who's interested). Very early in the book the author discusses a form of fishing known as Skishing. This takes fishing to a whole new level - one I'm not willing to go to. It seems the fisherman dons a buoyant wetsuit, some fins, some limited safety gear, and of course a rod. Swims out into the bay (or maybe even the ocean), casts out an eel and waits for stripers to come along. Once they hit, the fisherman is towed around. Once again, maybe I've seen Jaws one too many times. I'm all for ocean fishing, but being that close to the water is a bit too much for me. I'll stick to the safety of using my tube on a lake. I heard and saw this several years ago.
If I lived by the Ocean I am sure I would have tried it by now. Cool way of fishing.
