Need Help with fresh water fishing - softballmadness - 08-19-2009

O.k guys I'm new to this site and don't know alot about fishing that's why I'm here. First of all I've only fished in salt water. I have fished for Bluefish, Strip bass, Weak fish, Black fish, Snappers etc.... Now I wanted to try some fresh water fishing but don't know where to go. I live in New Jersey, Union City to be exact 2 miles from New York. I would like to go fishing on land for some nice size fresh water fish. Any suggestions on where to go? Also I think I may need a license right? Sorry about all the questions I just have no clue where to start. All help is appreciated. [Smile]

I don't mind driving 20 miles or more. Just looking for a nice fishing spot on land for some nice size fish.

Thanks again

I lived in Brooklyn for about 2 years and never really got into fresh water when I lived up there. The saltwater fishing is so much better.

But if you really want to start catching bass and catfish there you will need a completely new rig. Your saltwater rod n reels aren't going to cut it for fresh water fish.

Also not many of your lures or live bait will work. It's a completely different world in freshwater.

Recommend you goto the NJ boards and see what they can help you with. http://www.bigfishtackle.com/cgi-bin/gforum/gforum.cgi?category=41
