Where are the Ririe Eyes? - Belasko - 07-30-2009
I'm curious if anyone on here has actually had a first hand account of catching an eye from Ririe yet and if so do they have a pic of it? I keep hearing about "a guy my friend knows is doing well for them in but he won't say where". I don't doubt that they are in there, but I would be interested in actual photographic proof.
That being said, if anyone does know where to target them or w/ what could you share that info? If not openly I would be open to PM's as well. I'm hoping to actually catch a 1st eye and collect some photographic evidence while at it.
Yes, I'll admit, I'm looking for "the secret honey hole." But I usually C&R and if asked to keep my trap shut, it will be. I will also take suggestions for just a decent chance of hooking them up.

OK. Guess I was a little overzelous in the original post. How about this? Has anyone here actually caught a walleye from Ririe themselves or been on the boat when someone did? Better yet, anybody have a picture of that event?

I did see one up there when I was snorkeling. At first I thought it was a sick bass, but then I saw its eyes. I don't have any photographic proof though.

and i pesonally saw one last june that was around 14 inches long some byu students caught it off the dog leg on the damn was walking down to where the damn dumps into willow creek and i stopped to see if they had done any good. and they had a 14 inch walleye they didnt act surprised about catching it at all. i was

Finally got a reply from F&G on this same basic question. Here's their reply. It also includes some clarification as to how catch limits apply there at this time.
So far, our radio-telemetry work is showing that walleye are staying in
the upper half of the reservoir more so than the lower half. Look for
areas of water that are about 15 to 25 feet deep, and fish towards the
bottom. We have had reports from anglers that state they are catching
walleye by bouncing jigs along the bottom and on steeper drop offs.
Statewide general limits apply to Ririe - no size or bag restrictions.

Just some clarification....where is the 'upper half' and where is the 'lower half'?
Also, I know that Juniper is the boat dock...but where is blacktail?

Juniper is the lower half. Blacktail would be the upper half. Take Lincoln road east as far as you can and you'll end up on the blacktail boat ramp. Probably 7 or 8 miles east of crowly road. Blacktail if anything is more popular than Juniper, there are shelters, grassy areas, roped off swimming, and more parking, and its closer to town so you get a lot more skiers.
