FishFinder/GPS combo suggestions - 1fw - 07-16-2009

Hi all,

I am living in Thailand, we bought boat and now we are going to buy Fishfinder with GPS combo. I hope there is somebody who can help me - I am really new in this area

I want buy Fishfinder with GPS under $1000, we will be fishing to 50m deep waters in Gulf of Thailand, the device should support C-MAPs. So far I got this choices:

Garmin GPS MAP 420s with transducer:

Navman Trackfish 6500 (I think it is same with Northstar 650 Explorer)

Which one you suggest to buy, Garmin or Navman/Northstar ?

Thanks a lot for opinions

I wouldn't buy either one of those. For under 1000.00 dollars, you can get one of the new Lowrance Hi-Def units. They are super pimpin', and very high quality.

I have a Lorance HDS7. It was around $1100 US. I am super happy with the performance, I have had several Garmin units over the years both on boats and aircraft. I realy like the aircraft GPS but like the Lorance for the boat is the best.

The fish finder in my Lorance unit did not perform as well as I needed until I went to a better 50 khz transducer. I fish a lot in water 300 to 400 meters deep.

Sawatdee from Thailand,

Lowrance is on the way, currently in Bangkok, I got some clearance delay...anyway, thanks for suggestions I am pretty sure here it will work good for these fishes from Thailand! Smile

The place where I live is deepest water only to 50m, so I dont need better transcuder for now.

thanks guys!
