Southern California Saltwater Report 6/25-7/1 - JapanRon - 06-26-2003 Hi there guys, Southern Caliornia Saltwater (Starting new reports) Report June 25, 2003 (Wednesday) Way Up North-Moro Bay Fishing is picking up when boats can get out. Up North- channel Islands Calico bass fishng a steady pick. LA Area- Catalina Island Barries and Calicos great with 1 or 2 WSB and YT for overnighters and all days. Further South- San Clemente No news San Diego- Coronados The Calico and Sand Bass bite has picked up with good counts of barries here and there LA Local Good to Fantastic fishing on Calicos, Sand Bass and Barracudas. Many boats limiting out on the bass. Monte Carlo, Southern Cal, Native Sun 1/2 day boats doing very well! Up North- Channel Islands Halibut and bass make a good showing. Capt Hook 26 Halibut! LA Area- Catalina Island Calico Bass and Barracuda good for 3/4 day boats Overnighters are picking away other doing better. Further South- San Clemente Heard of nothing but wish I did! San Diego- Coronados Bass and Barracuda counts are hit and miss. The albacore bite is fantastic on the multi-day boats. LA Local Lots of boats getting 5-8 fish per rod averages with the catch being a mixed bag of Calico, Sandies, and Barries. Same story where the high count boats are doing good where ever they go! Up North- Channel Islands CISC did great with lots of halibut 40+, barracuda 100 and more!! LA Area- Catalina Islands WSB and TY fantastic for overnighters with bass and barracuda also very good for the late comers. Further South- San Clemente No good news San Diego- Coronados Calico and Barrie counts were pretty good with over a 5 fish mixed bag per rod. LA Local Great Weather, Great Fishing with lots of fish caught by all those 1/2 and 3/4 day boats that didn't go to Catalina. WSB boats included: the Phantom, Amigo, Legacy, Freedom, Aztec, Tide Change, Seahawk LXV. YT boats included: The Blue Horizon, Amigo, Victory, Sport King, Tide Change and Phantom! AND... Albacore count zooms at Channel Islands! Way Up North-Avlia Albacore bite is good for the boats that went out! Up North- Channel Islands WSB good for the Island Tak! Bassing OK for other boats. LA Area-Catalina Island Overnighters get good WSB and scratchy YT counts. Tide Change, Toronado, Chubasco, Freedom, and Phantom good on either WSB or YT but not both. Further South No idea San Diego- Coronados 1/2 and 3/4 day boats were doing good on bass and barries. 5,6, or 7 fish (mixed bag) per rod. Some boats limited out! LA Local Fish per rod averages went up today to 7 or 8 fish with some boats like the Victory gettins 370 barries plus other species. Squid was at the LA Harbor Bait receiver yesterday but don't know about today. LA Area- Catalina Island Good bites for Phantom, Freedom, El Dorado, Toronado Sea Hawk, Dreamer, etc. for both YT and WSB. Further South- San Clemente I'll bet the Oceanside 95 went to Clemente and killed 'em!!! San Diego- Coronados Good Sandies, Calicos and Barrie bite with a few yellowtail thrown in. LA Area Looking at landing counts it looks like an fish per rod average of about 5 to 6. Which means some boats got ziltch and others limited!! Oh well. Way Up North- Avila 12 Salmon from Chris's Up North- Channel Islands 5 fish per rod average on mixed bag for 1 boat. LA Area- Catalina Island El Do (10) and Toronado did OK on the WSB Persuit did OK and Pierpoint did OK. Ya..... so so fishing! Further South- San Clemente No News San Diego- Local All in all about 3-4 fish per rod No albie report... Sorry! LA Local Boats were getting about 7 fish per rod on a mixed bag with a few boats.... like that 1/2 day for LA Harbor which got limits for 15. JapanRon [signature] Re: [JapanRon] Southern California Saltwater Report 6/25-31 - JapanRon - 07-02-2003 Hi there guys, Southern California Saltwater Report for July 1, 2003 Way Up North- Avila Salmon and Albies being caught at Chris's Up North- Channel Islands SEASON OPENER!!!! Looks like all the landings up there had boats out there were good counts of rockfish on most boats. LA Area- Catalina Island Good reports of Calicos, Barracuda. Legacy had 44 WSB today! Victory did OK and Pierpoint did great + 2 yellowtail and 1 25lb WSB! Further South- San Clemente No News San Diego- Coronados Local fishing was OK with 4 fish per rod of mixed species. Albacore boats did well. LA Local Results were not uniform as some landngs had boats that limited on Calicos and Sand Bass while others numbers were looooooooooooow. Calicos are still being caught in greater numbers than Sandies so the rush is not on as yet. Give the Sandies another two weeks as the water at the Horseshoe is 67 degrees!!!!!
