drumking, chickamauga, bass, 7/07/09, Biofisher - FishNews - 07-08-2009 Gary and I met at Wolftever this morning for 1/2 day of bass fishing. Very good day considering that the wind blew like crazy out of the NW this morning and whitecapping the lake in several places. The little wind early helped our topwater fishing, but really hurt us on the worming that we did later.

We had a great 1+ hour fishing TW lures. Hooked up 24 bass and landed 22. Very good landing to hookup ratio. Gary was using a chugbug and I was using the pop-n image. We had about 3 or 4 doubles while topwater fishing. Much fun.

Then on to worm fishing. Just as soon as we started worm fishing, the wind began to howl out of the north. Talk about being a tough condition to fish in. We both were using 4-5 inch worms and fishing them on spinning gear. The big bow in the line cost both of us several fish. We landed 21 on worms and had a few either jump off or in Gary's case, he broke off 5 or 6 times setting the hook on fish. We were fishing vertical structure (bluffs) sitting in 40-50 feet of water and the bass were around 15 feet deep. Catching suspended bass with a worm was a new experience for me. I enjoyed this a lot. Just wish that the wind hadn't blown so hard so I could tell when I was getting a bite. Many times at the end of a cast, I would just set the hook just in case and there would be a bass on. With the bow in the line and the current that we were fishing with, it was almost impossible to tell when the bass actually took the worm. Learn something new everyday. That's what makes us all better fishermen. emoBig ![]() ![]() |
