Decided to go out this evening and do a little crappie fishing. Got on the water at 6 p.m. and the fleet was still going strong. Ducked into a cove to get out of the waves and bass fished a little to wait them out. Had two nice keepers both on a spook, blow up and make it into the boat. Also had two others that hit it but did not take it. At about 7ish the fleet started slowing down and so did the waves. Headed for one of my favorite deep crappie holes on the river and they were there in force. Caught about 30 there with maybe 10 being nice slabs. Moved to my next hole off a dock and boated only five there but all keepers.
Made one more move just after dark and hit a light that always seems to bring them up and in. They were there in force as well. Boated about 20 or 25 there all in about five to six feet. First spot was a 20 count, second spot was a ten count and the last spot I started reeling the moment it hit the water. emoBig That last spot was like top water fishing for crappie. All of them were caught on a crappie assassin in pearl blue dipped on the tail with chartruse. Good eveing out. Put about 60 crappie in all in the boat with about a third being keepers. Had those two nice keeper LM, six nice whites and a bream. All released to fight again another day.<br /><br />Water temp was 73 to 75 depending on which part of the lake you were on.
